Here in Germany we still do not have such a list.
My BMW-i contact told me they will have it in a couple weeks, and they will immediately start accepting orders after that. At least initially, all produced cars will go directly to customers, so no chance to see or try one before ordering. This coming weekend I'll be in Geneva, hopefully I'll get more info. ...and another interesting info that was told to me is that the launch will be "silent".
Maybe there are some concerns about positioning the i8 with the traditional "it needs a 5000cc V8 engine+ neon sideskirts" car enthusiasts. Definitely not my case. Last edited by tremnon; 03-02-2014 at 04:41 PM.. |

Another reason is probably that it's pointless to make a big deal about the release of a car that is sold out for over a year. You would just get a lot of interested people contacting their dealers and being told they're at the end of a long list. Not something people like to hear.

For me this is the only interesting car right now. My local dealer has an allocation of 5 but no actual build spots yet.
I plan to trade both my m3 and cayenne turbo s and go to this one car since it is awd and I will order with all-season tires

Yep, looks like I was right about varying standard equipment. Things like HUD are standard in the UK but 1400euro in Germany, surround view is 1500 pounds in UK, 2600euro in Germany. The US dealer PDF I have says both of those are standard, as are the two sport tires (the W and Turbine Spokes). We'll see.

If you add the options included in the Impulse package individually you get close to the price of the package itself. It's basically a "pick this for all options and a few extras like embroidered headrests, black gearshift, contrast stitching mats, leather engine cover, black brake calipers, and special door sill trim."

Found this floating around. The Lights package is apparently user-changeable LED light bars in the interior (the blue lines on the dash and doors).
Hopefully they haven't changed their minds or plan on contradicting what they've previously said about options. Last edited by Carac; 03-11-2014 at 08:20 PM.. |

Carac, thanks for posting. Interesting to note that it's dated September '13, so I wonder if there might be changes when the final ordering guide is released. Personally, I prefer the turbine spoke 444 wheels, which I've noticed are listed as the standard wheels in the European ordering guides, so I hope they become available.

Unfortunately from my research, it looks like the car will not have lane change assist, night vision, or radar controlled cruise control. The only one for me that is VERY disappointing is the lack of lane change assist. With a car with such limited outward visibility at the sides and back, this is a really needed assist. Maybe they worked it in with the surround cameras, but it doesn't look like that since the is NO reference to it anywhere in the literature on line.

I've read many descriptions of the systems available in the car and I am nearly 100% sure blind spot detection is NOT included. Active cruise control, if it is in the car, is a system run off the front camera system and NOT radar. I don't know for sure, but I think it is NOT the same as those systems for highway driving like the radar systems. Lane departure could be run off the camera system and might work at highway speeds.
If you read the list you posted above, it says "Collision Mitigation" and "Pedestrian Protection". Everything I have found on these phrases point to these systems ONLY running at low speeds....as on city streets! I hope I am wrong but I am pretty well convinced about this stuff. |

Carac, in my reading of the BMW press release I have to agree with forrests on this one. And quite am surprised by it, as well.
It believe it's only more recently developed models that have the radar cruise control, blind spot assist, and lane departure. There are 3 types of cruise control. - The good old "just keep the speed constant" - no other function. - Cruise control with braking function - known as Dynamic Cruise Control. This detects when you're approaching another car and applies the breaks. It does not then reapply accelerator, nor does it keep a constant distance, stop the car in stop and go traffic, and then continue back to the cruise control. - Radar cruise control - this is the top of the line one which will do all of the things Dynamic Cruise Control doesn't do. My 2013 X6M has Dynamic Cruise Control, with the braking function. When I ordered the car, the radar cruise control lane departure, and blind spot assist were not available as options, and still aren't for the 2014 model. I believe since the i8 has been in development for some time, these newer features haven't been integrated yet, unfortunately. Which honestly makes no sense, because the pedestrian detection (with night vision) and collision mitigation are absolutely newer features that cars like the new F15 X5 have but not older models. However in reading about the assistance features and cameras in the i8, surround view cameras, rear view camera, PDC, etc., they seem very similar to what I have in my X6M. The i8 has the Dynamic Cruise Control, same as my car. The press release didn't say anything beyond a braking function. Definitely odd for a car all about tech not to integrate these features that have been available on many other cars and as a top of the line (flagship) model, really should be there. Maybe that's what the delays are about Last edited by ddk632; 04-03-2014 at 10:45 PM.. |

Agree to disagree then. They could save us all a lot of trouble by just coming out and informing everyone.
