i3 BEV service schedule

Hi - really enjoying our i3 - purchased from dealer 1 year old but 10 miles on clock.
Now saying it needs a brake fluid change and inspection. Can understand that - not needed but as time dependent it would come up - but have been quote £250 just for the inspection! (which seeming includes changing the cabin aircon microfilter) which seems excessive for a filter and an eyeballing - we have only done 4000 miles.

I thought servicing was Condition based?

I agree with your assessment - your cabin filter is perfectly fine after only 4K miles on the road. So is your brake fluid.

The fact that they quoted you £250 to change them after only 4K miles was an attempted rip you off.

It is for mots wearables, but some services are still triggered on the time-basis. For example, brake fluid is to be changed every 2 years (in the US it is even covered by the prepaid maintenance plan!).

Cabin air used to be changed every 15K miles or 2 years in the past, but that may have changed. I've had my i3-REX for 16 months and 18K miles, and the cabin filter services is yet to be triggered.

Had a call from dealer - they confirm it is time based and the car was build in Aug 14 - so the filter and brake fluid re due on that basis. They have offered me the service plan which will save a bit.

That's relatively rare.
There is no included "free maintenance" plan in most other parts of the world, including Canada.

Many other countries also get much shorter warranty period, as short as 1-3 years (vs 4 years/50K miles in the US). It's what the market will bear, and what the automaker can get away with in a given market.
For example: http://bmw-saudiarabia.com/me_dl/ksa..._warranty.html

US has the most competitive automotive market in the world, so we get the most aggressive package deals and most attractive prices.

No - we got a 5 year service plan for £500 on our X3, just were not offered it on thei3 as it was a year old when we got (as it was a show car).

So we have noew been offered one on the i3 but seems a lot of money for a car with no engine!

The clock on the hygroscopic brake fluid starts when it goes in the car, e.g. the build date. Get it flushed.

The cabin filter life is mileage-based. There's no need to change it yet.

Its £350 for the i3 on purchase (we have a REX) I would have thought regular servicing would be cheaper on the BEV

P.S. More bad news from Ecotricity if you take up their Electricity for home you are only allowed 52 free charges per year
