Sorry about the orientation of the pics. I suck at this, obviously.
Nice pics many congrats! And get used to having a permanent grin when you are driving it.

Talking Update

Just a quick update.

The i8 is everything I hoped for, and more

The only bad thing is the lunatic dangerous driving I get around me, from those who want pictures whilst on the move, and sometimes BMW M drivers, trying to prove a point

47.2mpg to date over 550 miles I have done in the last week. A mix of driving, but nothing aggressively hard yet.

Last motorway trip, and normal motorway speeds, with more roadworks and traffic than I have seen in my life , 4 in the car, round trip to Derby gave 45mpg. Eco Pro mode.

I've now named my i cars

i8 - Bladerunner

i3 - Tardis - simply because it is bigger on the inside than the outside

Bladerunner could easily be Tron linked instead, as it truly feels like a car from Tron when driving at night. More alien than the saucer in Close Encounters, at night. But the images will explain.

I will post pics of my car in a few days. Just need to get organised.

Saw the youtube link of the designer showing how he created those images. He is pretty talented.

That's a fine thing to be able say about any car purchase, whether a budget car or a hyper car or anything in between.

Thanks In fact I do feel the same way about the i3 I purchased too. Excellent car, and great fun to drive

About my i8, I disappeared into my garage one evening last week to look at it, and take a few pictures.

When I reappeared my wife asked if I knew how long I had spent in there. I had no idea.

Turned out time had flown by as I had been in the garage with the car for two and a half hours!

Talking Want to be a Rockstar - but can't play an instrument?

I've been astonished by some of the reactions to the i8, and in a very good way

I drove to a small town this week, and the i8 drew so much attention it was shocking. Young guys (late teens to early 20's) were running into the road in the town centre (v slow traffic) to get a closer look and give me the thumbs up Lots of young girls crossing the street when I was parked up, again doing the same.

When I got to a civic building, one of the men in a position of authority there actually moved away the cones restricting access to marble covered frontage so I could park in the pedestrianised plaza in front where the fountains were Yes, the one and only car permitted on there was the i8 Everyone there just loved the car

I parked it diagonally in the prominent position and left it there for an hour

I was even more surprised when I saw the news 2 days later and our Prime Minister (David Cameron) visited the same spot

So, for the full Rockstar treatment, drive an i8

It has surprised even me, as it is getting more attention than ANYTHING I have driven before (including various Ferraris including F40, McLaren, Radical RXC, various Lotus etc etc). And the reaction has been entirely positive

Speaking of attention, I have never done this but am a little tempted:

Have you ever been at a stop light or something when a car on your left (also stopped) is giving you a thumbs up or taking a picture of the car?

Here's what I've been tempted to do: open the driver door to give them a better shot of the i8's coolosity with maybe a little return thumbs up or tip of the hat.

Be honest guys: am I losing it?

No although no one will admit it...

Sometimes I am tempted to just get out, flip the doors up and go "tada!!!"

But seriously I've already had one person ahead cross into oncoming traffic trying to take a picture, someone almost rear end me, and one guy almost fir hit by another car walking into traffic to take a picture...
