There is a great deal of camouflage on the body and around the front end of the car. The unique gullwing doors aswell as the rear hinged doors on the BMW i3 will make production reality.

The i8 is not only about looking different. It is different. Audi and Mercedes-Benz will offer you the R8 and SLS AMG electrified. Whereas presented with the choice of these two they are more likely to go with the petrol powered models. BMW will only offer the i8 with this hybrid drivetrain with range extended three cylinder , so it will be more more unique ,more innovative and individual. With the Audi and Mercedes-Benz you have seen it before , i8 is bringing a future and a new chapter which are rivals have completely overlooked that in order to sell the idea of "sustainable mobility" they have to be like nothing else on the market , something i3 and i8 will demonstrate.

Ah, so it's powered similar to the Volt's drivetrain.

Props to BMW for not making a car that looks so ugly that the only reason to buy it is because it's electric!

Yup...except I doubt BMW AG was able to bleed US taxpayers to build it.

It sounds like it may be AWD, with the petrol engine powering rear axle/electric motor powering front axle. If so, I would be very interested in both the price and ability to deal with below-freezing temps.

SCOTT26, is this a car that would likely cope well with winter weather? What is the projected price (ballpark)?

Someone threw up the figure €150,000 - that would translate to approx $250,000 in Singaporean dollars, and given our 400% tax+markups+COE+etc, I'd say I had better start saving now coz that baby will be in the ballpark of a million cool ones to own on this little island I call home!

Truly excited about this sensational car. Very impressed by the fact that it seems that they retained A LOT from the concept. That rear lights/rear spoiler area looks fantastic!!!

As much as I would like to see a NA V10 in there, the powertrain in this car it's what really moves the game forward and makes the competition look like amateurs.

I love this melody too, the closest thing I can think of is a Borla exhaust. My friend has one and it sounds amazing. Check it out on youtube

I hope this is not too terribly expensive. I'm not holding much hope though, as I'm sure it'll be a pretty penny.

Looks great, but the one thing I don't like is the rear lights on this production proto.

In the first picture, from that angle they protrude from the rear bumper. It just isn't aesthetically pleasing to me. Rear lights that are more flush with the rear would be better imo.

Everything else is butter.

I love it. Powertrain sounds awesome! First car that I can easily say I would rather have than a Cayman or 911 S.

So is this thing really going to cost what people are estimating?

I have seen estimates as high as $350,000 to $400,000.

How about one MILLION dollars. muahaha.

That is hypercar territory. I doubt BMW would build anything over $150,000 USD to stay aligned with their business model. I mean it's a cool car, but in that price range, you start coming across better alternatives.

The new spy photos make it look a little more slab sided than I thought they would be.
