I wonder how they resolved it?

I wonder how a software update will keep someone without a seat belt from getting injured less?

While mine is in for the RTTI fix (which is actually just a matter of waiting for a new Head Unit, which has been back ordered everywhere, to arrive all the way from Germany.....

.... My rep also mentioned that there is a "Software Update" for the HighVoltage charging system that may or may not happen while its there..

Software Update to minimize injury to 5ft tall females when they are not wearing their seatbelt?!!?... uhmmmm, yeah, I don't think so. You can buckle the safetybelt without actually wearing the safetybelt. Surely BMW is smarter than that.

There is logic there... So whats the expected fix for the safety issue? New air bags?

Its hard to say what the issue is without seeing a 'report'..

SteeringWheel/Column Position, AirBag performance, DashPanel and Seat Position/Integrity all could be factors in such a case..

So.. Apparently the (back ordered) HeadUnit has arrived from Germany. They just need a day to "program the Vehicle".. Should have my i3Rex tomorrow morning.

Hopefully I don't need another visit to EAS to get it coded again...

Still no mention of Safety Issue..

I heard the fix is out. The software update takes about 4 hours.

So good to go on purchasing?

Question, would all these incentives apply on i3 REX lease:

$7500 fed incentive
$2000 Holiday Credit
$1500 Loyalty Credit
$500 Fleet Credit

(2500 California rebate)

Thank you!

I believe the $1500 loyalty for the i3 is only for previous i3 owners

Where do I find (to verify the validity of) these listed credits and incentives?

Dealer showed me the sheet for what a 2017 i3 qualifies for as far as rebates.
$7500 Federal
$2000 which was either holiday or loyalty, but it wasn’t both.
So $9500 from BMW, then another $2500 if you live in Cali.
I was quoted about 9.5% off msrp, but I’m hoping to do better. I’m guessing they might have better programs for January to get rid of the build up in inventory but the money factor might go up a tad too because they just raised the fed rates. If I can get 13% off msrp I’ll close the deal this year, otherwise I might wait to see if January programs are better to help move them.

If the new tax bill is passed as is, January 1st the federal incentive of $7,500 is no longer available. The 'proposed house version' of the new tax bill repeals this incentive:

Present Law
A credit is available for new four-wheeled vehicles (excluding low speed vehicles and vehicles weighing 14,000 pounds or more) propelled by a battery with at least 4 kilowatt-hours of electricity that can be charged from an external source. The base credit is $2,500 plus $417 for each kilowatt-hour of additional battery capacity in excess of 4 kilowatt-hours (for a maximum credit of $7,500). Qualified vehicles are subject to a 200,000 vehicle-per manufacturer limitation. Once the limitation has been reached the credit is phased down over four calendar quarters.

House Bill:
The provision repeals the credit for plug-in electric drive motor vehicles.

Effective date:
The provision is effective for vehicles placed in service in taxable years beginning after December 31, 2017.

Senate Amendment:
No provision.

If you are ever in the Irvine, CA. Area, NEVER take your car to Irvine BMW Service Center.. A simple HeadUnit Replacement/Install has resulted in three weeks of cat-n-mouse runaround with a bit if SurfaceScratched/Chipped Hood and Greasy Wheel Scratches "from the Automoated CarWash". They claim buffing out scratches will work although my Detailing Experience says otherwise.. WetSand is the only remedy.

oh... and the RealTime Traffic still doesn't work after getting a call twice that my 'Car was Ready'..

And no mention of the Recall Fix either..

That's the old law. If the bill passes as is, it's done, limitation reached or not. Bye-bye.

As of right now the EV tax credit looks to be safe...

Finally got my i3 back from Irvine BMW. RTTI is finally working. Vehicle Programming service has been installed (over wrote my Coding I got from EAS)..

I specifically asked about the Open Recall about the Passenger Safety and they informed me that there still is no fix.. I think the forum members here are mistaking the Software Upgrade (Vehicle Systems) for the Open Recall for Passenger Safety. These are two separate issues.

I guess it is also possible that Irvine BMW hasn't been made known of the Recall Fix.. considering the experience I've recently had with them..
