My dealer confirmed that the i3 has the traffic jam assist function, where it steers and accelerates and brakes etc by itself. At least in the UK cars.

He said i8 does not have this.

We did not discuss cruise control though.

Regarding the gear indicator and rev counter display in both the dash and HUD, I raised this with BMW UK yesterday as they came along to the Wilton Classic Supercar event. He said he would feed it back, and said it should be something that could be done as something similar is already present in the M cars. N.B. although he said it could be done, he also said he couldn't promise anything.

Thanks, that is good enough for me, regarding the seat memory. It is all I really need it to do. I did not know about iDrive profiles, not having owned a BMW.

Thanks for raising the gear and RPM issue The more of us that ask for it, the better, and greater the chances of them adding it in a software update. It really should be an easy fix for BMW.

I didn't know about the Profiles either (having also not owned a BMW before) until I spoke to the dealer about the lack of memory seating at the launch event. The Profiles apparently also remember various other things too, like exterior mirror positions, cabin temperature, etc. Each Profile can also be associated with each key. So if your partner uses their key, it should remember their settings too.

No worries about the gear indicator and rev counter display. It was one of my biggest issues when I test drove it last month, and I too mentioned it to my dealer at the time and wrote about it in my review.

I just checked bmwusa.com and Adaptive Cruise Control isn't an option on the i3 either, like I previously thought. Probably because I read it somewhere and many of these "journalists" don't do the research and just make assumptions about things they are not familiar with.

Neither of the current BMW i cars has Adaptive Cruise Control;
Adaptive cruise control is part of the Giga and Tera 'world' options in the USA on the i3...I have it on mine. It is not a stand-alone option, and is only available in the packages.

Another missed opportunity for BMW is not having Apple Carplay as a feature of the i cars.

I wonder if it can be added via a software update?

In lieu of Apple Carplay, I'm hoping the i8 comes with Siri Eyes Free, which I believe all new BMW's have. Not the capability of Carplay, but it does let one issue commands to your iPhone through Siri by using the voice command button on the steering wheel.

That sounds useful Either way I suspect both things are possible via software updates.

I know for example that some head units currently on the market were sold with the promise of later software updates to enable Apple CarPlay.
