I8 vs R8 + some questions
Just got my I8 on Saturday and been driving it for a bit now and thought I would share my thoughts and have a few questions for you guys below.
I have a 2014 Audi R8 V10 spyder that I have driven pretty much as a daily for about a year so that is the closet thing I can compare the i8 to. Comfort: For sure the i8 wins, the i8 is so comfortable to drive, just like a normal car not a sports/super car. Yes the doors can be strange the first couple of times but now I find them easier than the r8(with the top up). Speed: Of course the R8 wins hands down, pretty much in every category. Traction: Again, R8 wins, you just feel so confident in the r8. Looks: Only been a couple of days but seems the i8 wins, had some dude today practically kill himself to get pictures. Of course, as with all sports cars I have had, attention is from all dudes! Tech: I8 wins on this for sure, there is no much tech I still dont know it all yet, some of it is confusing but overall seems good so far. Space: Since the R8 is the spyder it is hard to compare this since the coupe R8 would have the shelf in the back but both are not bad I guess for what your buying. Its not a truck thats for sure. Overall really happy with both cars and I am glad I kept the R8. I have a Tesla P85D that I should be taking delivery any day now on and will give thoughts on that when I get it. A few questions so far: 1. I have a bosch level 2 charger and while it does charge the i8 it seems I am only charging at 120v ( according to the dash readout) is that normal? I have not tested the charger on any other car so not sure if maybe it is wired wrong. 2. Is there a way to not have the parking brake activate every time you park? or maybe disengage when you want to go again? 3. I havnt looked at the settings yet but does the AC always turn on regardless if it was off when you shut the car off? 4. Which modes charge the battery? 5. When you use the climate setting to get the car ready for when leaving does it warm the batteries as well to get better range in cold weather? Comparing to what I have heard about the tesla. If anyone has more specific questions about either car please let me know. I will work on getting better pics outside soon. |

R8 v. i8, thanks
Appreciate your thoughts. I had two R8's (V8 coupe and V10 6 spd spyder). I should have kept the spyder and just might go out and get another one. I just spoke to a local Audi dealer last night about one they have in inventory.
Although, the new R8 models will be out in a year or so and they sound enticing too. That might be worth the wait, but then again, there's the upcoming NSX. Aaaaaa, so many nice choices! My blue i8 should be enroute now, for January delivery and I too will be interested in how they compare. I really liked both R8's. Well balanced and fairly comfortable for how we used them. Easy to handle, plenty of power, flawless build quality and service from Audi. Definitely not an "only car", although my wife did use them as her daily driver. We'll be interested in how you find the Tesla, as compared to the others. Happy motoring with them all. |

I hope the answers I gave you are right. If you find out that I'm wrong, please correct me. When you get the Tesla I'd like to know how you compare it to the i8.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yesterday I made it all day on electric only! Not sure how long that will last because I had to go sooooo slow.
I checked my settings and manual for the charging rate and it is set to Max. I had 1 mile of range when I got home and connected it to my level 2 charger and it took 2 hours to get back to full. Next time I am going to connect the included 120v charger and see how long that says to re charge to full. |

But you drive a 2009 135i, a 1994 TT Supra and a 2008 328xi?
