It is done through the BMW app. Go to the charging section and you will see "electrify America" and there is a setup for it and you need a specific # to use that binds the contract to EA and the car. Did the dealership/genius not do this for you? Then at least a few days later it seems or it could take longer the plug and charge function becomes available which is within the iDrive "charging" section of the vehicle itself to toggle on.

If you are near to your dealership I would just go in and make someone set it up for you. Should be part of the process of acquisition in my opinion.

If your dealer didn’t set this up for you, you should receive an email from BMW with directions. You’ll need your production number plus a dash and the two digit model year for the code plus possibly the VIN.

Assuming it’s a 2024 and not an earlier model. Some have reported it just takes time to show up in the car for some reason.

Yes it can take a few days to a couple of weeks for the plug and charge toggle to show up in the car's charging menu. If it is a brand new 2024 it will show. Mine took about a week or two.

The format of the code for free EA charging has changed a few months ago.

Edit: I stand corrected. It is indeed your production number followed by a dash and followed by a two digit model year.

I have the document in my glovebox it was like a "Build number" that you use and nothing related to the VIN. Sounds like the OP is wondering where the plug and charge is to activate. So in the meantime, you have to do it the long way. Once you get the plug and charge toggle in the Drive menu it is immediate to activate and a major quality of life upgrade.

Not exactly. I have a toggle but cant turn it on. Getting message 'see your dealer to enable'
The dealer looked at that two times and couldn't resolve.

I gave up because I don't use public chargers but BMW reputation got one point minus in my mind

The contract has to be downloaded by EA, not BMW.

Call EA and tell them your car is ready for the P&C contract to be downloaded. That’s what I did and even though it took a while since I’m the second owner, and both BMW Concierge and EA kept thinking I was asking for the free 2 year 30 minute charging package, finally EA realised what I was asking for, and it showed up in the car a few days later.

For some cars (like mine, early 2024 build) the car needs to be taken to the dealer so that they can load the software patch so that this function can work (not doable on the air) I have scheduled for late April. My dealer has already done it for others.

After 2 months of waiting, finally decided to call EA. They took my VIN and told me they will push contract to my car within a week or so. Seems like they have dealt with this before. Mine is ix 2024 and it was working fine but contract disappeared after software reset/upgrade at dealership and never came back even after waiting 2 months or so. Didnt bother me much cuz EA near my home is super crowded and i havent charged there for two months lol

Wow... I guess I did not realize how messy everyone else has had it in comparison to mine. Sheesh. Mine was honestly as simple as I described by just toggling it and it activated on the spot and tested it immediately with no hiccups.

Mine was also extremely simple and instant. I'm sorry folks have been having so many issues. I wish the experience was more consistently good.

Email EA support with your VIN and ask them to push the contract to your VIN.
support@electrifyamerica.com
There is no way for BMW to manually download the contract to the vehicle.

+1. This is what worked for me. Took a couple of weeks, but one morning - shazam! - there it was.

Just tried, will see what happens. I also have the my24 and dealer updated for plug and go but no contract. Still on the 2 year complimentary program does that change things?

Log out of the EA portion of the app and log back in. Log out of MYBMW app and log back in as well. You need to be logged into the car on your profile that the EA charging contract is associated with. If all is good then you need to contact EA to have them try to push the contract to your vehicle. Provide them with your VIN
