Registration Opens for BMW i3 Test Drive Events Across the U.S.
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com If you click you can sign up (with or without an invite ID). In the Dallas area, they are the week of April 13th at the various dealers (Classic, BMW of Dallas, BMW of Arlington, Autobahn, etc.) - looks like each dealer will have the cars for ONE day and you sign up for one of the time slots (30 minutes apart) on a given day. In theory, I suppose you could sign up for more than one. |

Thanks OP
Signed up for PA Maybe we'll all luck out and get a "reward" for the test drive like they have done in past. Hopefully I could use it for my upcoming M3/4 order (but that would an oxymoron)... Edit--"Your e-mail will allow us to send your confirmation and reminder emails leading up to the event as well as a post event email containing a special thank you sales incentive for attending." However, I imagine the sales incentive is only for the i3

Does anyone have an idea about the "special incentive" for participating?

Signed up for test drive, but here in Ohio the schedule is June 3, in Columbus and I already placed an order with a $1000 non refundable deposit. Hope I still want it after the test drive!

I went to the test drive held at Center BMW in Sherman Oaks, CA, yesterday, and here are my thoughts:
They did not have any models with the range extender, so I can't comment about that. I liked it a lot--I'd definitely buy one in the future. I bet it would be a real hoot to autocross it. |

By the time I was almost done with my test drive, I had figured out how/when to let go of the gas to come to a stop at the light without pressing the brake. According to my BMW guy, the brake light comes on as soon as you lift

Did my second test drive yesterday.
Pros: - I like the cabin, front seats have SUV feel. You sit up high and the head/shoulder room is great. Very airy feel with great front visibility. Backseat and trunk (especially when seats folded down) is very useful for the size of the car. Lack of B pillar means using a childseat should be super easy. - Car feels sports coupe quick. Very easy to get up to highway speeds and great traction off the line despite the thin all-season tires. - Steering has a very quick ratio and it is lighter than my F32. Body roll was less than I expected. - With 19 inch rims the ride is perfectly fine. Not harsh like lots of reviewers claimed it to be. - Got used to the one pedal driving pretty quickly and I liked it very much. I also think it would help driving in snow a great deal. With all season tires and aggressive regen dialed in the car should lose speed beautifully in snow. Also the Rex model with the added weight on rear axle should have good traction in snow. - The exterior design has grown on me very quickly. Cons: - Thin front tires mean the car has zero front end bite. I floored it to make it to a green light on a relatively tight left turn. The car understeered pretty badly and I could feel it wasn't the nose being heavy but it was just the tires not having grip. I read similar complaints about i8's front tires and the engineers are still working on a better compound. I really hope that they would find a better compound for i3's tires too. I am wondering if the optional 20 inch wheels with performance tires have better grip and less understeer... - I don't know if it is the boxy design or lack of engine noise but the wind noise was definitely more pronounced than my F32. Tick the Harman Kordon option box and the noise shouldn't be an issue Overall: In Colorado where we get a total of $13,500 tax credit this car is the most fun to drive economy car. The incentive is usually $1000, but it's also usually listed that way in the promotion when you register. Not sure why they didn't spell it out this time. It is also usually applicable to any new BMW, with some exceptions, NOT just the one you're test driving.
This one could be different since it appears they are only bringing the i3, where the other drive events had all BMW's available. For example, I did the Olympic Drive Event when they were promoting the (at the time) new 6 series. You could drive the 6 series with no salesman because BMW NA brought the car, but there were also cars from competitors (mercedes in my dealership's case) and every BMW model line. The $1000 credit was not limited to the 6 series, I used it on an X3. Similarly, I did a drive event last year expecting to use it on our X5, but ended up getting an F15 instead of one of the last E70's, and the credit expired before they released any F15's, effectively (and likely intentionally) excluding the F15 from that credit. But again, this one appears to be only for the i3, so it could be different. I am willing to bet the credit won't be limited to the i3, however. My guess is, this year's drive event is just geared towards the newest offering, the i3. Doesn't mean they don't still want to sell their other cars |
