4.9

---> So it will out accelerate a 316i. Not an M3.
In the city streets - from one traffic light to another - it certainly will be on par with M3. Since it accelerates to eg 50 kmh at least as fast as M3 if not faster!!!. The torque is instantly available, there's not lag in shifting, friction is lower etc.

Within city speed limits i3 accelerates very aggressively in Comfort driving mode. It's a very formidable city car. Sure on Autobahn M3 will dominate but i3 is primarily a city car, not an Autobahn cruiser.

The BMW i sub-brand has some own design trademarks: eg. "stream flow" instead of Hofmeister kink, U-shaped double coronas instead of round quad coronas, U-shaped rear lights instead of L-shaped ones, blue frames around kidney grille & BMW roundel etc.

I like the interior "design" but the finishes look very cheap from the photos here - may be a base model?

Looking forward to seeing an i8 in person...

Yes, it's a base model - with no leather & wood trim.

Not when they want (and can afford) a BMW. Again, they will be all over the place here.

The base wheels were chosen for a reason - fewer openings means less drag. There are about 6 different wheels you can specify, if looks is more of an issue to you verses functionality.

Most people don't want to sit in a car lying down or sitting on the floor, so to make a short car that a wide range of real people can sit in comfortably, there's not much other choice than to make it tall. Again, functionality. You can buy a car for how it looks, or for what it is - functional, I think they did a good job (your priorities may differ).

Now, if I fit, I'll likely end up with one as it will work for 90+% of all my day to day needs.

Always cool to see more photos of the i3 "in real life". I really believe the i3 will be a sales success.

One thing know one has really mentioned... is how well this car is at city driving(and parking!). Those super skinny wheels also allow for a really aggressive turning circle. I'd say it is much tighter than your average car. I'd bet its around 26 foot(turning radious) from my ride(s) in the i3 at the IAA Frankfurt.

it look UGLY very ugly to me, specially the exterior. BMW make the cars, give the desing to bertone, pininfarina, italians. they have taste.
the interior choice of color and material, shapes look from 60-70's

The Italians usually have taste, but making a small boxy car like this isn't their forte. The Fiat 500 isn't exactly drop dead gorgeous.

I didn't like the i3 looks at first but it's grown on me. Definitely has a presence, more so than a Leaf or Prius for example. And while I don't think the Volt is ugly per se (actually it's quite a decent looking car), I still like the i3 better due to its design. Even the rear side windows are growing on me.

@ ddk632 - well, what you say is kinda common feeling. you can take any car or ''thing'' and if you look long enough to it, after a while you get used to it and you get the feeling that you like it. but if is nice, that you can tell on first view. and this just isn't. i mean look at those back windows...looks like back passengers are sitting lower than the driver.

@bm3rmy, I see what you mean but I would say there are 3 categories

1. Nice/awesome, from the bat (for me, i8 is this)
2. Grows on you with time (i3 for me) - this is how we've both described the i3
3. Never grows on you no matter how long you look at it (for me this is Prius )

I've been looking at Priusi (I guess that is proper plural for Prius) for a long time and still think they're butt ugly. The i3 is different to me in this regard as I can appreciate it better with time. But overall I agree with you because when I first saw the i8 Concept, there was no convincing or time to adjust needed.

That being said, the i3 and i8 are worlds apart, so it isn't a really fair comparison. In this small electric/hybrid city car type segment, I think i3 looks the best.
