It is bad to leave Fuel in the Tank?

Hello All,

I recently had my car coded this past weekend for a number of things and have been wondering this question for a while.

How often is it necessary to make sure you use the fuel in the gas tank? My daily work commute is ~55 miles a day round trip and I don't need to set the REX to kick in before I can charge it again. Thus, I hardly ever use the REX unless it's the weekend.

Thanks,
Josh

not knowledgeable in this, however the Chevrolet volt is programmed to burn the gas every so often to keep it from going bad. I'm sure bmw thought of this as well

More to protect the engine from inactivity. Same with the i8.

The gasoline will deteriorate and lose octane count over time but it would take years for it to go really bad.

I run the ICE every once in a while and burn the fuel down to 1/4 tank. I realize that with the REX you can't do that unless you run down the battery. Nevertheless, I wouldn't worry about it.

It will run a maintenance cycle by itself after about 6 weeks of non use.
I haven't used my REx for only about one month so far.
Before I was playing around with it trying to gauge the mpg on the REx.
I only have mine for about 2 months now.

You can code it to allow you manually run the engine. But you have to be at 75% battery SOC to start the engine.

Coding

Hello
About to take over a lease on an i3 REX and am not familiar with the coding thing. Is this something the dealers will do or not? Suspect changing the point where the REX can be turned on affects emissions and would not expect a dealer to do it. Does it affect your warrantee from BMW if you have an outside shop do it? I gather that when you have your car serviced, they may flash everything back to baseline unless you ask them not to. Your experience would be helpful.

Most dealer won't do it.
You can find someone local or I can do it remotely.
You just need a Windows laptop, ENET Cable, and the softwares.

It doesn't void a warranty since you are just turning on an option that is available in the car all along.

But, dealer may reset it if they have to update some firmware in the car.
