Hello everyone I recently purchased a 2015 i3 REX Terra world. I come from the M community so this electric world is very new to me but Im really enjoying the experience. Please follow my thread as myself and ACM WEST transform this i3 into a one of a kind road worthy electrical machine.

By the way, the i3 is an urban electric, so I will be interested in seeing if you try to make it into something it is not.

Yes we are, I'm just saying I'm excited to see the outcome, it will be the first one we do and there are not many on roads that are modded

That's the same as saying what the youngsters did with the civic and practically every Japanese car on the road, and it started a movement. The argument people have about reasons not to mod the i3 holds no water, it's a fine opinion but that's all it is!

Sure you had the supra and all the other cars that where breed as a sports car from the get go but people have been modding and making the grocery getter beat the shit out of sports cars since I can remember so hats off to you guys for taking the road less traveled and making the car more of a one of a kind.

Shoot! I'm sure the engineers at rover when they designed the mini, racing was the furthest thing on their mind and what do you know, turned out to be a famous rally car! Who would have thought!!!

Theirs so few options for the i3 to make them personal I applaud those for making it a bit different, as long as it's tasteful of course.

It's a BMW so by nature its sporty, even BMW shows commercials of a guy getting pulled over in one and BMW's own marketing pushes the idea of a proper EV that drives like a BMW so I wish people would have a bigger more open mind on this subject because again this forum is very very stale and gets a post once in a blue moon so anybody that wants to start being creative I say go for it!!!

FWIW - I didn't take the "something it's not" line to be negative. My reaction is that it was a good thought, similar to your reaction to Civic's and other grocery-getters.

The i3 is not designed to have a tuner or xcross personality or use. Trying to find and highlight a seemingly hidden quality seems like a pretty cool challenge.

Of course ... I could be naive on all of this.

The idea isn't to take away from the car but to embassies it's already slick design and ability.

Ahhhh I see.... The problem with forums I find is sometimes you miss the point of what the person may feel or wants to get across because theirs no tone or feeling with text. So my apologies that I went to the far side to thinking it was just to be negative.


Either way my mod bug is wanting to do something soon so hopefully theirs a future of stuff to come down the pipe at some point.

Yeah. Or at least one of the problem(s) ....

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, is developed by 3rd party tuners. The i3 isn't an obvious choice for this.

Which means that someone should definitely go at it.

Some people can't stand to see space between the tire and the wheelwell. They lower the car and add spacers to move the wheel where it was not designed to go. To get a lowered position, the spring rate has to be higher (often done with a progressive wind) so you bottom out at the same point with the same load capacity. If not done with a progressive wind, you are at much more risk of hitting the bump stops which can be quite uncomfortable as the constant higher spring rate can make things nasty. It's all relative. Having the chassis lower to the ground isn't a great thing in my mind for daily use. Now, on a track under controlled circumstances, maybe, but in the real world, speed bumps, ramps, road debris, potholes, all risk physical vehicle damage. An inch or more does make a difference!

Ohhhhh yea you bet it does !!

My Mini Cooper had coil overs and man she was sweet to look at but driving on anything but new pavement and you where in for it.


Theirs a fine balance between what looks good and over done.

Theirs also a balance as an OEM to make a product that compliments many drivers.
We have to make sacrifices where I work all the time to hit a percentage of drivers. It doesn't bode well to the enthusiast all the time but hits a wide market so profits can be maximized. Some cars however do need lowering the r56 was actually raised due to drivers complaining (to harsh) and it looked weird afterward. I however liked the harsher ride and hate couch mobiles so it's all preference.

My mini even though the ride is rough has over 200,000 miles on it and still sings. So as far as changing it and making it what it was not designed for is just weird and doesn't make sense. considering BMW and mini sells lowering springs and performance shocks..as well as tons of other performance goodies like Dinan back in the day and fully covered under warranty.


I'm thinking a few people on This board are against modding or see no need for it though they are very intelligent and all they just don't get it. Almost seems boring just to leave it as is.

It's a BMW with performance minded attributes, I'm having fun with my car. It's not a Prius and it's something special. Don't need to share it with a bunch of stick in the mud fuddy duds.

Not any of you fine fellows but their are a few around here.

It's funny though of all the i3 forums I've been to this forum seems to have the most haters of performance minded mods to the i3....... I guess that's because of what it is and the other customers it attracts, coming from the 3 series forum to the Z4 forum to the 1 series forum and Now the i3 forum each forum has had a very diverse difference in people I must say.

I'm lucky to be young and be able to afford this technology and excited to be able to make it my own. As long as it's designed tactfully and has a presence I'm all in,

pretty good, dropped about 2 inches the car sits real nice now.
