Drive Train Malfunction-Stranded

Well, my 2015 I8, 4k miles, got the dreaded Drive-Train malfunction. The car would not start or go into gear. Good thing I was parked at the time. Called BMW, tech looked at messages from web and determined there were several faults. Vehicle was towed to the local dealership, where they are "starting" with a battery replacement. Hopefully they won't take long to figure it out, I have only owed the car for about 2 months.

Just curious which battery you are referring to?
The 12 volt or the main drive pack?

Thread drift here. Anyone know if the i8 has a normal lead-acid 12V battery? Or is it gel or Lithium-Ion?

Just curious.

It’s a small Varta AGM battery in front: 12V, 50Ah, 570 A, 570 CCA.

Thanks. Was just wondering whether BMWi picked the low hanging fruit in terms of their weight reduction measures.

It appears they didn't.

Dealer says they ordered the big lithium-ion battery. Their troubleshooting let them to this solution. I'll keep forum updated once battery arrives here in Hawaii.
