https://www.0-60specs.com/bmw-i8-0-60-times/ So, it is quicker than most Aston Martins. Significantly more efficient than any Aston Martin, and more bold in design that most Aston Martins. I8 turns more heads than any Vantage possibly can. So, I ask again, why not $160k? Last edited by orion1977; 03-17-2018 at 09:40 PM.. |

The aston has 510bhp. One of the reasons why i bought the i8 was that it was faster in the real world. It's performance is far easier to deploy, far more accessible. The aston felt a lot heavier and very antiquated when compared to the i8. It felt like a dinosaur in fact. The traction is way poorer mainly due to 2wd and corsa's. In sub 10c temperatures or heavy rain, you can completely forget it, the aston was totally useless. I remember coming from a weekend away on the motorway in heavy rains doing 50mph and scared to aquaplane at any moment. Nissan micra's were passing me 20-30mph faster and their drivers seemed amused. I wasn't. I still love aston's and the v12v in particular but a/ be careful of what magazines and emotions tell you, and b/ headline hp figures can be misleading in the real world. The i8 has big torque figures available instantly. This is what makes it punch above its hp 'weight category'. |

For some reason I now can't quote from prior posts on this thread.
I was going to point out that the 0-60 site has unrealistically optimistic 0-60 times for every car listed. They are all off by a large margin. The site is, in my view, totally unreliable.

I have that feeling as well. The i8 is not very fast 0-60 or at higher speeds, but many other intervalls which you experience in real traffic are.

Car & Driver: “Hold both pedals, watch the revs climb to 2500 rpm, release the brake, and the i8 will jump to 60 mph in a more price-appropriate 3.6 seconds. Without launch control activated, the i8 will do the 5-to-60 run in 4.6 seconds.” Motor Trend: “The i8 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and all the way to 100 mph in 9.7 seconds. It finishes the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds at 121.1 mph. Not bad for a 1.5L, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine.” Road & Track: “While BMW has carefully downplayed expectations with this car—the company line during development was always that the i8 would be "quick enough"—in reality, it's a rocket: 0–60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.” Last edited by orion1977; 03-18-2018 at 01:54 PM.. |

So did Sonny buy his dream car? Did he put a Trump/Roy Moore bumber sticker on it, too?

Commiefornia? That's a good one. I guess someone forgot to tell the land values out here that we are communist because good ol' capitalism keeps pushing them higher and higher. Maybe that's because people actually want to live here.

Just thought I’d throw my 2 cents in about McLaren.
I have a friend that lives in the Palm Springs area that owns a MP4-12C. He says it’s been the most unreliable and expensive to repair pice of junk he has ever owned. It is making him crazy with trips to the dealer. Parts are hard to get too. Hope you have better luck. On the other hand ... I’ve owned the i8 for about a year with not a single issue. It's one thing to criticize a car on a car forum (which is what he did), and it's quite another thing to personally insult each other over politics (which is what he and others are continuing to do).
