New to i3 and pleasantly shocked at range
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com So I picked up a Melbourne Red (Suite) 120Ah i3 last week, which was a totally new experience - before collecting I'd never plugged an electric car in anywhere... It's terrific for lots of surprising reasons - mainly clever design stuff that I admire - so a welcome addition to the family. As for range: I'm shocked - in a good way! I drove this car as I would normally on what I thought was a reasonably fast route today, and got 60 miles in exchange for 25% battery life. This car looks like it does close on 200 miles for the sort of motoring we do. Very impressed so far! |

Yes, you can get quite far in these if you manage your consumption.
But to get 200mi/300km, you pretty much need to be in Eco mode, AC off and avoid motorways, if you are able to drive at relatively constant speed of 60-70kph (37-43mph), you can reach or even exceed the WLTP number. The interesting number to watch is the "MPG" number. I typically get 12-13Kw/100km when "touring", I have seen close to 10Kw/100km on parts of the journey. For "city driving" its a bit more due to the constant stopping and starting. My mix tend to stay around 15-16Kw/100km. In order to get to the WLTP figure, you need a consumption between 12-12,5KW/100km. Come winter and you can expect up to 15% lower range due to ambient temperatures (battery gets cold) and the need for heating up the cabin. I have a garage at home and at work, but winter time I struggle to get much more than 250-260Km out of it.

The range is indeed good as it a clever BEV
Easily getting 4.8mi/kWh Now with the winter at our doorstep it will dropping a bit but still usable |

Without highway driving or climate, I just hit 200 miles on a single charge in my 2019 i3s with 35000 miles on it.
