2018 I3 Turbocord

I see the 2018 I3 has a $500 turbocord option. Does anyone have this and have pictures of the turbocord? Also, did you receive both the regular 120V charger as well as the turbocord dual 120/240v charger both?

The turbocord isn't an option when you build online but many 2018 window stickers I've seen have it, but not all - so I'm confused.

I am awaiting my i3s as we speak. It is my understanding that the TurboCord is sold as a dealer option and that the OUC (Occasional Use Cable) comes standard. You will definitely want some form of L2 charging option, whether it's TurboCord or a charging station. The advantage with the TurboCord, is being able to take it with you.

It's a dealer option but still on the window sticker??

And so then you would get both?

I am also awaiting delivery of an i3s and have researched the BMW branded TurboCord and can tell you that it can be found for less than $500.

There are a few BMW OEM parts websites that sell the TurboCord new for a range of prices less. Lowest I've found was $380. Located via google search.

I'm not sure that I want the full wall unit just yet. If I get another EV, think I'll make that investment later.

I do think other EVs are in my future.

You can get a good L2 charging cable on Amazon for $150 or so. I would only get the BMW turbo cord if it's absorbed into the lease.

Turbocord

Just got my Turbocord last week. It's available on Amazon for $420 and you can see the photo there. But the lowest prices are on Ebay for about $365.

Does the same thing the Turbocharger does for L2 charging. Not sure if it will do L1, but that takes so long, you will never do it anyway. I've been using this for over a year and there have been no problems. Don't buy the hype, the Turbocharger is just a Monster Cable type branding and marketing. Just get a cable.

Turbocord actual use

For those who bought and are using the Turbocord, where in the world do you find NEMA 6-20 outlets? Most modern homes have NEMA 14-30 installed for their dryers. So finding a NEMA 6-20 outlet when you are out and about seems almost impossible. Also, where would I find a NEMA 6-20 to NEMA 14-30 adapter?

If we end up paying for a Turbocord brand new PLUS paying to install a NEMA 6-20 outlet, cost-wise, we might as well just buy a charge station that charges way faster than the Turbocord and still end up being around the same price or maybe less than a Turbocord.

And if buying a portable charger "so I can plug in when visiting friends' homes" is the reason, surely a portable charger with a NEMA 14-30 plug be better suited such as the ClipperCreek LCS-30P? It even pulls 24A. Way more than the Turbocord.

So I'm really confused as to the appeal of the Turbocord... yes, it's small, it's portable, but it can't be plugged in anywhere! Plus it's pricey!
