Wheel locking nut key?

I tried to find i8 wheel locking nut key with no success. In the leftside locker inside the trunk there is a tray with empty hole - should there be a key there? Can someone check his/her car and confirm if that is the case.

Manual says that the key is on this tray or in "tool kit". Where is the tool kit? Manual says nothing about it.

I searched even the bottom of the locker with torch but there was no room for the key there. A bag seen in the picture is first aid kit, then there is a compressor and a bottle for broken tyre filling. Rightside locker was also empty.

Dealership gave me the wheel lock socket in the packaging the nuts came in.
...didn't know there was a special place to put it. Guess I'll get it out of the packaging and put it there.

Ok, thanks for info. I got just manual, keys and charger. Nothing more. I have ask dealer what's the situation.

Any updates here? Actually, not sure a key is needed on 2015 models.

Just checked... My locking wheel nut is where you highlight it with your red arrow. Might be best to check with the dealer.

I have an early '15, and one of the bolts on each wheel is keyed.

My early car has the key in that slot in the tray, per OP's picture.

Ditto, except mine is still in a plastic kwik-fit bag in my centre console following tyre changes. I'm pretty sure they all need a locking key - check your bolts on the wheels - one will be different.

I don't believe US i8s have them. I've had nut locks on other Bimmers but not the M4 or i8.

You probably need four

Seriously, check the nuts on the wheels first - you may already have them, if so you need to locate the key nut.

I shouldn't have generalized. Mine didn't. But I'm in Southern California.

So, California cars don't have nut locks? Is there an emissions issue with them? Or is there some made-up safety issue?

Who'd want to steal our wheels? They can only be used on another i8. And from what my service tech told me, the tire pressure sender is specific to the car.

Good point but not sure the thieving b*stard scum of this world understand such things unfortunately.

Following the rise in thefts of cars by key-relay transmitters, I got a bit nervous about my ride getting swiped but thinking about it, the i8 is so distinctive and surely there's no market for the parts. I wonder if anyone would bother to steal it when there are so many other cars that are easier to dispose of?

My wheel nut key was missing. Only noticed when I needed to change rear tyres. Dealer ordered a replacement from their 'master set'. Was free of charge but the cost was only £7 anyway.
