Do People Buy Exotic Sports Cars to Drive or Park in their Living Room

I have considered, Aston Martin's, Lamborghini's, McLaren's and Ferrari's. I see lots of threads about how Great these cars Drive and Perform. There's just 1 issue - Miles Driven.
I did a couple of Nationwide Searches on Auto-trader and sorted by High Mileage. All Years
Aston Martin
661 Cars for Sale
2 > 80,000 miles
4 > 70K - 80
4 > 60K - 70
7 > 50K - 60
Lamborghini
556 Cars for Sale
0 > 80,000 miles
0 > 70K - 80
0 > 60K - 70
1 > 50K - 60
McLaren
297 Cars for Sale
0 > 80,000 miles
0 > 70K - 80
0 > 60K - 70
0 > 50K - 60
Ferrari
1,685 Cars for Sale
0 > 80,000 miles
2 > 70K - 80
5 > 60K - 70
10 > 50K - 60
As a Group 35 Cars above 50,000 miles, 3,199 cars = 1.6 %
I buy cars to drive, my 2015 I8 has 20k, I bought a Jeep Wrangler for Bad Weather Days. I have seen a $400,000 Lambo, 7 years old with 163 miles.
The number of cars with less then 1,000 miles is Amazing, do the Math and figure in Depreciation and Insurance and they have paid $5,000 per mile driven. Why not drive the car? Are they really Fun to Drive or are they not reliable? Just a thought

Are these cars reliable? I have driven my I8 from Houston to Indianapolis and Houston to Florida. I don't even think about it. I have driven the trip to Indianapolis at least 25 times over the past 40 years in different cars and trucks and I will say the I8 is the Most Comfortable and does not wear me out.

These cars are not daily drivers. Most of them are garage queens. And the people with the dough to buy them have lots of other cars to drive that are easy to drive (these aren't), spacious (these aren't), reliable (these aren't) and comfortable (these aren't). My neighbors drive Bentleys (and now the Bentley SUV), Teslas, a couple of Roller coupes and convertibles, Escalades and big Range Rovers. As for the other cars, it's all about the show.

Not really. You are only partly correct. Owners have a number of cars and limited time.

And these cars are more for occasional use on a sunny weekend, or a track event. 2 seats also means limited use.

Moderns supercars are easy to drive, reliable and comfortable though.

These are the comments that have sold me on the logic -- twisted though it may be -- of getting an i8 for my DD and occasional Virginia Beach - Columbia MO commute. Depreciation remains a primary concern, but I usually keep bimmers for a long time, like six years or so, by which time they have developed some new toy that is irresistible.

Wholeheartedly agree. That's why I got rid of them. In contrast to the i8, they're highly impractical as a daily drive for the Bay Area and are absurdly expensive to maintain/repair. Like Jash mentioned, they are better suited for either the track (that is if you're not worried about the car being pitted), or a weekend drive through the countryside.

I have a Dinan 650 for my DD - but I drove the i8 from Cincinnati to Philly one of the best drive ever
The car is best at high speed -- now cars like the i8 Carry a milestone and a nostalgic feeling just like you will have looking at 1600 from 1967- I would like my i8 to be around in driving condition 50 years from now

Just curious, which color is yours? I'm in the Bay Area, too.

I don't see any surprises in this. Few people use exotics the same way they do normal cars. They're not very practical for the grocery run, you don't want your dog slobbering all over the interior, you don't want to get them scratched up or stolen when you leave your car at the airport for a week, you're not going to use them to drive the entire family across the country to grandma's. And most people who have those cars, have a bunch of others, too. The miles get spread across more vehicles. The usage pattern is completely different.

That said, I daily-drive my i8. A good friend dailies his Ferrari FF while the McLaren only comes out every so often. So, it's selective and in my view no reflection whatsoever on their reliability. That image lingers from the 80s, for some reason.
