It's a 4 passenger car. There has been a lot of speculation as to why BMW didn't make it a 5 passenger car because it really appears like there is enough room for 3 back there. I did a blog post about this issue last week wondering if it was an "Unforced error" by BMW. Many people say they didn't buy a Volt because it only had 4 seats so it's surprising BMW didn't make it a 5 passenger vehicle.
