Is this noise normal? (New eDrive40)
I happened to be outside when someone else started up the car and heard a high pitch whirring noise. It goes for a minute or two and then stops. And then goes again.
View post on imgur.com I can't actually tell where the noise is coming from but I stuck my phone under the cover as that is the loudest spot I could find. Car is brand new, just picked it up yesterday. I can't hear the noise in the car. But I wonder if it might be a sign of a problem? |

Have dealer check…sounds loud to me, but that could be related to how it was recorded. I have an IX (same technology) and other than some humming or external fan noises when AC requirements are high, it’s pretty quiet on the outside (and inside).

Well I took it to the dealership and the shop foreman had a listen. He said he is 100% sure it is normal, and even went further and said that I should expect the noise to get louder as the summer heat comes.
Hopefully all good. |

I had another listen today and noticed that the volume of the noise has dropped significantly. I now have to really get my ear close to the car to hear it. So maybe it was just a new pump getting broken in? Who knows. The nature of the noise is still the same, just much lower in volume.
