Is this anywhere near a fair price from a BMW dealer?

Hi,

So i just got a 2015 bmw i8 with 7k miles on it, about 3 weeks ago.
The car came from a dealership in ct and was advertised as no problems and being sold "as is" because of the age.

3 days after having it, a drivetrain malfunction light appeared, but then went away after restart, I then bought an obd2 scanner with an all system scan function and found 24 codes (most of them intermitten) without the light present.

Dealership ofcourse is pretending they knew nothing about this, and even tried hiding an extra $2k in fees in the contract. I caught that and they claimes it was a mathmatical error and a check would be cut...lol.

Fast forward 2 weeks later...I took the car to a BMW dealership nearby and after $700 of diagnostics fees, they said the problem is that the High Volt EH got wet, as well as the High Voltage cable and they both need to be replaced.

I was quoted for around $3300 for these repairs (not including the $700 in diagnostics fees).

Does that seem at all reasonable for this repair? They claim around 1600 in parts and 8 hours of labor around $1800.

Most reputable dealers would make this right. Ask them for a goodwill repair…maybe they will at least cover the parts for you.

I tried, Last time i spoke with the GM of the dealership, he said..."there were no lights on the car when we sold it" and then he pretty much hung up on me. I then called back and asked for their corporate office phone number and he said no and hung up again....

Unfortunetly i cannot find any information on a corporate address or number for "balsius autogroup" anywhere.

You might have better luck calling BMW NA Customer Service, 1-800-831-1117. You can also email them at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com

At the very least, a complaint will put the dealer on notice with BMW so that this type of situation does not repeat with another customer. At the best, BMW NA puts some pressure on the dealer to make amends.

God-awful dealer. Stunned you did not get a minimum 30-day warranty.
Moral of the story: never trust a dealer who sells a car "as is".
