BimmerCode Update

The newest BimmerCode update now supports the i4. Unfortunately for us, the iX was not included in the update. Not sure what modules are actually accessible. I know it’s very limited.

Isn't i4 still technically a 4 series with battery pack at the bottom?

It’s basically an electrified 4-Series Gran Coupe. Of course it’s running iDrive 8 which is a completely different system. BMW has really locked the modules down. Most of the modules can only get the configuration changes from BMW now. Whatever coding changes are possible will be very limited by comparison to any previous iDrive system.

I4 is an SP18 car so most of the coding possible on the 4-series should work.

Even with iDrive 8?

iDrive 8 is only one part of the car, and the regular 3 and 4 series have it now too. Depends on what type of coding you are talking about. Video in motion and nag screen disabling? Yes, all possible on ID. The way you access the coding data and deploy it to the car has not changed for iDrive. It's every other module on the SP21 cars that cannot be coded because the requisite coding files are not available.

Thanks for the clarification. I would like to disable all of that disclaimer crap. I’ll wait for BimmerCode to be updated to support the iX. I’m not comfortable doing it directly with an ENET cable. Getting eSys to work is a little over my head. I’m sure I can figure it out, but the licensing/Tokenmaster situation is rather confusing.

What model OBD2 scanner are you using?
I am new to this and would like to check out what it does. Also, is there free software that can be used (or buy with 1time fee).

Appreciate if somebody can post the links for HW/SW.

I have the UniCar Scan 2000. That was definitely the most compatible at the time I bought it. On my M550, some of the modules required this adapter. Never had an issue with it. The one listed on the new compatibility list is newer than the one I have.

https://www.bimmercode.app/adapters/

BimmerCode is worth every penny. If you don’t know what you’re doing, this app makes it really simple and is worth the $20. The same link above. Just know that if something gets messed up, it does create a backup for each change. You may run into warranty issues if you have problems with something you may have modified. Just know that in advance. Also note that anytime there’s a BMW iDrive software update it usually wipes out any custom coding you may have done so you may have to redo it. Not a big deal.

Some advanced coding requires an actual ENET cable, but it also requires hacked BMW software.

With all of that being said, iX is not supported with BimmerCode yet anyway.

Basic Coding for iX popping up on Websites

It appears the basic coding mods are slowly making their way to the various coding websites. This is the first one I've noticed that's updated to reflect iX as compatible. Does anyone know if buying tokens for the iX is reliable right now to code for VIM, delete saftey warning, etc? I'm a bit skeptical given we are still in the early days.

thanks, that's really helpful. I view BC as most reliable source out there and will take them at their word. For what it's worth, the description for iX VIM on OBD website is rather confusing. Initially describes as VIM for PASSENGER, then later says video WILL LOCK when car moves. So honestly who knows... Will avoid until more clarity is received.

There’s another post on here call BMW iX Coding thread. You might want to read it as is it has some useful information about the coding limitations of iDrive 8 and the corresponding modules on the iX

thanks - yes i have that bookmarked and followed. haha - i'm very keen on monitoring the developments of this! but sadly, will keep my expectations tempered given the new 'gate keeper' process that BMW is likely using for future subscriptions....

Totally agree with you. hugo_nz likes to live on the edge! I wouldn’t do anything without his seal of approval first.

I will give VIM another go this weekend. I found some additional parameters related to the speedlock in the MGU CAF file. I'll report back after testing.
