i8 Hesitation After Cornering

I was wondering if anyone had experienced what seems to be a "hiccup" with the electric engine, both in comfort and electric only mode, on acceleration after cornering. It's like a slight hesitation before getting power -- or a power dead spot -- and it's only for a fraction of a second (yet noticeable).

Its happened about 3 times now - randomly - and doesn't seem to be repeatable around any particularly circumstances except occasionally accelerating exiting a round about or going round a corner.

I'm going to assume that if it's happened to me, then it's happened to someone else who may have got to the bottom of it and might post a few sentences on what went wrong and the fix. Thank you in advance.

However, if it's just me, then I'm not worried -- yet! However, the whole car's a complex beast of circuitry and drive trains so if this is the start to a whole swag of known problems, then a heads up would be grand.

Cheers!

Sounds like traction control kicking in. It happens quite a bit when only the electric motor is engaged.

Ah, thank you - that makes sense. Yes, in each instance it was only the electric motor.

No warning lights came on or anything, so case closed!

Still getting used to this car with respect to road handling. Different from my old E92 M3, but still excellent.

It could be wheel slip but not enough for the TC to kick in. I've noticed it a few times but on other cars (including BMWs) the TC usually interrupts things first. I think the i8 is just letting you have a little 'fun' before the computer sorts everything out, or in this case, you simply get the traction back.

Yes, I agree. this is not only annoying but dangerous. When I'm yielding to make a left turn, I make sure I set it to sport mode since it hesitates on initial push when in comfort mode.

Anyone found a way to fix this ?

The fix is to do what you're doing, or mash the throttle past the click and it will engage the gas engine. I agree it's dangerous.

I’m suspecting the culprit here is not the elec motor but the 3 cyl engine. It seema thats its very sluggish when in comfort mode. I tried to recreate the left yielding scenario using pure EV mode and it doesnt hesitate.

It's a very intrusive traction/stability control system, which I despise. I usually try to remember to put in the sport traction mode for just daily driving but that's still intrusive if i feel like driving in a mildly fun manner so i remove stability control altogether but even doing that i can feel intervention which makes me think it can't entirely be turned off.

Software update took care of that for me - more than a year ago.
