What's up everyone. Picked up this '16 white on black terra world yesterday.

Look forward to getting to know this phenomenal car a little better.

Cheers.

She's a beauty! Did you add a vehicle or replace one? What were you driving before? What are your initial impressions?

Thanks!

This will be my car to drive to the office and clients. Previously was driving a 2013 M3 pretty heavily modded with the ESS 650 blower, Akra exhaust and big brake kit. Sold that to make garage space for the i8. Also have a 991 Turbo S and heavily modded 997.2 Turbo S. And some SUVs since the i8 and 911's can't carry anything lol.

My initial impression is that this car is very different and that's why I bought it. It would be kinda insane for this to be someone's only car. I've been intrigued with it since it came out - not for its performance stats at all but rather for the experience. So far I'm digging it

Congrats! Choice of the future over the M3. ;-)

It's my only and daily driver, I have to admit. But we do have a Volvo station wagon for the wife (officially) to carry kids, do the shopping, go on family trips ...

Wow brother that's dedication! I took my wife and son on a spin around the block and I'm pretty sure that's the last time they get in this car lol.

Totally agree. There's a zillion negatives with this car but the best positive is that we are driving the future.

Interesting. How tall is your son? I have a 2-year old and a 7-year old. I'm 6'2", my wife is 5'10" - but all with very healthy BMIs ;-) . She and the kids take any opportunity they can to come on a ride. Even if it does mean pulling the passenger seat all the way forward. ;-)

My son is 6 - he's about 4 foot 4 inches lanky and he can barely fit in the back when I was sitting in the front passenger seat with the seat up as far as I could handle. With my wife in the passenger seat there was a little more for him. I was pretty surprised at how tight the interior is especially parking it next to my 991. The 991 is shorter but quite a bit more interior room. I think my wife and son liked the novelty of the car and cool sounds but were over it pretty quick.

My wife drove it and was pretty nervous with all the blind spots even though there was zero traffic. My 6 year old is completely desensitized to speed and kept saying it was slow lol. My fault tho as he rides in my 800+ hp 997.2 at airstrip events.

would be interesting to get a more extensive review/comparison from you i8 vs 911 Turbo S ( non-mod one ) in every day to day driving. I was considering 911 Turbo before getting a good deal on i8....

Congrats, I see your point it would be not the best decision in one's life to have i8 as only car in the stable but that car still holds many items in trunk as well as rear seats
I have driven sedans only until I bought i8 but BMW i8 is like a different experience ,it makes you drive it

Wow that's a big change coming from your heavily modded M3. But you still have the 911 Turbo S to feed a different type of appetite.

So basically it's your daily? This is what I am considering it for. To me it's the perfect daily driver cause it offers electric drive for short city driving, and sports car dynamics driving in sport mode, with a supercar shell and the reliability & free maintenance of a new BMW.

Thanks for your impressions.

Sure be happy to compare with my 991. I just left to go out of town for a couple weeks and then I'll probably need a couple more weeks of seat time to make a good comparison. But initial impressions are that size of the interior is the only thing making these cars similar. Otherwise they couldn't be more different. Probably a better comparison for price/performance is the 991 Carrera S.

Yeah it will be a daily for work purposes. I'm about 20 miles from my office. About 10 miles are through Laguna Beach on Pacific Coast Hwy which is a nice slow cruise which I will do in Eco mode and then the last 10 miles I snake through the hills of Newport Coast and can have some fun. Hoping to see maybe 40mpg in mixed modes. My work parking has a couple of charging stations if I want to use them. I occasionally visit clients as far as LA or San Diego which is maybe 60 miles in freeway mixed traffic. I don't need to carry anything for work and usually don't have any passengers so the capacity limitations aren't an issue, so no drawbacks that I could think of.

The residual and incentives from BMW coupled with the deep discounts dealers are willing to make on the capitalized cost make leasing this car a really compelling option right now.

This i8 has been fantastic as daily driver, 50 mile round trip commute with electric in the stop/go city and the highway in sport mode where hitting 100mph feels really easy. Great car (someone takes a photo every day)
