Ultimate Driving Experience - Coming Soon

I did the free BMW Ultimate Driving Experience two years ago and it was where I first drove the i3. Loved it obviously and bought one a few days later. Anyways the last time they did this they offered an extra $1000 bonus credit for i3 to those who test drove a car at this event.

FYI - Its coming up again soon and maybe they'll offer bonuses again.

They're pushing the 5 series but last time they had every car BMW sold there to take out for solo test drives.

I did this too with my wife. It's also where I had my first experience with the i3 and i8. Look forward to doing it again and driving the latest crop.

This year it will be mostly 5-ers, not a car that suits any of my needs.
Yet still, I had registered.

I also did another food-focused event in the City a few weeks ago that had a fleet of 5's, 7's, and i8's parked outside for test drives. The first two were left neglected, and there was a long wait list for i8 test drives.

Driving the i8 was a fun, though surprisingly noisy experience. That 1.5L 3-cylinder Mini Cooper S engine is neither smooth, nor quiet. 7.1 kWh battery is only good for ~15 miles, and got quickly exhausted. Even while battery was still charged and powering front wheels, it was slower than M3, but more of a visual eye candy.
Once the battery went dead, the car turned into a noisy yet sexy MINI cooper, at 5x the cost.

I'm in the Los Angeles 5/13 from 2 - 4pm Autocross group. If you set best lap time for your group you get one of these "Ultimate Driver" trophies

Do we know if we will be driving the 530, 540, or 550?

We'll know for sure by what cars show up tomorrow in New Jersey. Last time I did the autocross it was 428i GC / 328i. I would expect 530s because you really don't need the power of the 540 for autocross. They will probably have the 540 though on hand for test drives. Maybe 2018 550/530e? ..Maybe But I haven't seen those stocked in showrooms yet so not sure if BMW is pushing sales of those just yet.

Here's what they're bringing around. Expect exact same cars from Jersey in LA and elsewhere:
