How do I reload from a code backup?

I have several backup files from previous coding attempts. How do I reset to one of those backups? They are .xml files.

FA's and SVT's (*.xml's) contain no actual backups of coding changes.
  • FA is a list of factory options (decoded VIN details)
  • SVT is ECU list with firmware versions. It only changes with software updates.
Only NCD's contain actual FDL's.

Which leads to a question. I have watched several videos that all say to save the file before starting any new coding session. What does saving the file in .xml do? How is it useful?

Saving serves multiple purposes. I use:
  • FA's to make copies and modify & load rather than writing changes to VCM
  • SVT's for E-sys Coding Verification and load offline to know vehicle's ECU's. If offline coding, you need to know CAFD_ID's
  • FA's and SVT's can be loaded into TM's NCD / CAFD tool for various reasons.
But, like I said, people mistakenly think FA's or SVT's hold vehicle coding. But, you can make thousands of FDL changes and both will be unchanged.
