BMW i8 Sports Production Wheels For First Time and Drops Some Camo
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW i8 Sports Production Wheels For First Time and Drops Some Camo BMW i8 testing continues and this prototype is the most revealing we've seen yet. The thick rear camouflage has been dropped to reveal the production model's rear shape and design. It mostly retains the look of the i8 concept model. We also get a look at the turn signals, reverse light position and the LED bars of the tail lights. The front now reveals a large portion of the headlights. For the first time we get a look at the i8's production wheels, a 5 (or 10 depending how you look at it) spoke wheel with a futuristic and asymmetrical spoke design. The i8 is expected to boast 354hp / 500Nm torque, 0-62 mph in approximately 4.6 seconds, top speed of 155mph, 78 MPG (european test cycle), up to 47 MPG average fuel consumption, with just 66g/km emissions, all from its 1.5L three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (in rear) with a 128hp electric motor (in front). BMW's first electric hybrid sports car will hit the market next year and is expected to come in well north of $100,000. Love everything.. But I'm not sure about the rear tail lights.
In many ways, this car does not compete against Gallardo or R8, but is a marketing vehicle: This car will introduce the new 1.5 L engines. There's going to be a lot of marketing for that, which will in turn open the flood gates to put the 1.5 L, though detuned, into the other vehicles. It sound nice. Personally, I'm thinking i3 for the city!

My Golf 5 1.6 FSi sounds better... Terrible what downsizing is doing to "sports cars". This car needs a V8 or a V10...

Re The wheels.
Both i3 and i8 will be offered with personalisation exclusive to BMWi . These are 1 of a few options for the i8 but one point is very much clear is that design and personalisation is aiming for that futuristic theme. This is that future you were promised with rocket ship cars etc back in the fifties and sixties. The i3 will come in just over 100 days with a huge launch event prior to the car being launched at the IAA in September. The i3 Coupe has been green lit for production. It joins the i8 Spyder as an additional variant to BMWi model line. Work has commenced on additional concepts for BMWi including a small i1 city car. Which owes much to the MINI Rocketman in its ideas and CFRP genes.

BMW had all these years to make a super car and this just not cut it. Not for me...give me a v12 and some aggressive styling. Not this garbage hybrid crap. If you're spending $150,000+ on a car...there's more options

I don't wanna be that guy but I don't get who they think they're trying to mess with..
1.5L 3-cylinder engine for $100k+ is absolutely ridiculous IMO. Who the hell is gonna drop that kind of money for this? BMW's high end products have recently been consistently designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions and I'm okay with that... If it were done to the daily driver 335i or 328i etc... Don't apply that to high end performance cars. At least, not to up this extent and stick a ridiculously high price tag on it... BS. It's been downhill ever since they stopped making the S85 and S65. |
