BMW i3s - Questions regarding sound
Hi everybody,
I am new here but let's start with that I am an absolute idiot. First of all... I drift with my BMW i3s. And I LOVE IT!!! Lately there have been a lot of things on my mind... Long story short I am trying to figure out if I can get sound inside my car to at least HEAR what I am doing with my gas pedal. I know I know most of you, if not all would probably think I am dumb etc. But I truly want to make this work. There's a app that works through OBD plug to get sounds on your phone when you press the gas pedal but this app and others only seem to work if you have ReX... Because of rpm? I have no clue. First question: Is there a way to code an active RPM signal in my full electric i3s? If that doesn't work... What else could I do? Buy a accelerometer and pair that with an app or something? My brain is soup... Please help! All help is welcome. Thank you. Here's a drifting vid of my fat face and my i3s in action: |

One of the car sound apps (RevHeadz?) is already working with acceleration. You also need to have sound by cable, not by bluetooth, or else there will be too much lag. That seems to be easier with iPhones than android phones in the i3.
By the way, that is the best i3 drifting I have seen so far. |

Second... I have been in contact for a couple of weeks now with the devs at RevHeadz but they cannot get it fixed for FULL EV i3's. There's a dude on youtube who has a REX i3 with the RevHeadz app and it works flawlessly for him. So I guess it has something to do with the rex engine or something where there's a rpm signal coming in... What exactly is sound by cable? I also have bimmercode... Is there a way to spoof the rpm signal or just unlock it like I have a fake REX? Maybe then it would work? I'm looking into trying a BT accelerometer so I can just stick that onto my gas pedal and then through other apps try to make sounds appear. All help is welcome. Thanks again. |

But I think the RevHeadz app used to work from phone accelerometers only before. The OBD2-connection is a new feature. I would think it would still be possible to run without connecting to the car.
I think the iPhones can send sound to the car by the charging cable. Also some cars (not the i3) have aux connector you can connect to if the phone has a 3.5 jack connector. That cuts down on the sound delay. |

Try to install the app on the iPad, and connect by the apple cable to the USB input in the car with bluetooth disabled. See if you can make the car play music from the iPad. If that works, the output from the car sound app should also work.

One plus thing is that Through the USB cable coming from the apple tablet - I do get sound in my BMW i3s. But it doesn't find any rpm signal whatsoever... Not with the OBD2 (wifi) nor without bluetooth.
EDIT: Just ordered a bluetooth accelerometer to see if I can do something with that. Last edited by Lycan-Strife; 07-04-2022 at 09:03 AM.. |

Thanks again. I have those exact apps on my phone / pad for some time now and also downloaded other apps that should work with external speakers but as far as I have tried nothing seems to work. Will try some more tomorrow.
If all of this doesn't work maybe I can try and get the accelerometer working with some apps. I hope so... |
