I think the red stripe is just a cool detail!
Same with i5, M Sport comes with black stripe and M Performance with a red one

The red stripe should be optional. Its ugly and dont fits a luxury oriented interior (beige, oyster, brown interior colors). It fits with black interior only, or on your 2 years old child's BMW baby racer.
