Who's the idiot coming up with this ideas? Oh and by 2050 I'll be bloody 60 and past my prime so i won't even care... +1 thing I almost forgot: have some respect for your customers we're not prius drivers so you can sell us this 'emo'mercial

I am for car sharing of average (non luxury or sports) cars for commuting. In EU many people would like to use such a way of transport. Don't forget that 90% of the people use their cars just 5% of the time per day on average. The rest is garage/parking time. That's just future IMO.

Lol...those are some terrible commercials. Try all you want BMW, but I'm not plunking down $38-45k on an ugly car like that no matter what the technology inside.

BMW - Are you trying to put people off buying with these commercials! That second one on population growth is so patronising

Car sharing is something that is found in a variety of cities as new companies are growing to capitalize on this new phenomena......ZipCar anyone?

Also, the commercial about population growth is unique in that they are not trying to sell a car, they are selling the impacts of car ownership and the benefits of alternate fuel vehicles.

I always look forward to reading comments from such "optimistic" people.
It is the highlight of the day.

Dear BMW,

Thanks for showing me how awful the future will be and how much it would suck for us car enthusiasts.

Car sharing is great - I have 3 BMWs but there are times when I still need to use the car-share here. Too bad they only have 2-seaters here (Smart cars) as it would be handy for taking both my kids from time to time.

Still not 100% convinced on the overall carbon footprint of an electric car over gas/diesel. Is there any stats/video out there that has directly compared the benefit of electric cars over gas (including the battery manufacture/disposal aspect)? I can't imagine if there were millions of battery operated cars out there all aging and being dumped/replaced... like all those people who keep junker cars in their barns/backyards - wouldn't there be leaking battery acid and problems like that to contend with?

One benefit of electric drive, even if the overall footprint may or may not be great, is that around a dense population like a city where this vehicle is designed to be used and is practical, it helps keep the air much cleaner since most of the generating plants and manufacturing plants are further away. THen, as we refine greener power generation, other than making the thing initially, there's no extra pollution. I'm sure the recycling will improve as more of them are around, too. The rare earth elements used are just that, rare, and it will be feasible to recover them.
