Insurance in nyc for IX is insane
Liberty Mutual quoted me for 2024 IX M60 $6,800 for the year. Been with them 12 years with a clean driving record. Only had glass claim for safelight to fix windshield a few years ago after a rock on highway cracked it. Never had any accidents, dont have any points or tickets.
State Farm quoted me $2,902 for 6 months. For some weird reason they dont do yearly policies only 6 months. |

Location, location, location. I'm paying almost 1/3 that rate in WA State although my umbrella policy did nearly triple in cost compared to last year.

About $2500 a year for me through USAA, and we have terrible drivers in Vegas. You didn't elaborate on your coverage limits, deductibles, etc. as obviously those can make a difference ($250 comp and collision deductibles for me).

My IX 50 is $1400 a year in a NYC suburb, Rockland County
If I insured the car in Florida it would have been $3500 a year As someone above said, location, location, location |

Ifeel for those living in high cost areas…not sure how people afford insurance in some of these locations. Perhaps that’s the problem…in places with high costs too many drivers go without insurance, driving up costs for others. |

Here in the Cleveland area, I am paying $1,700 a year for both my cars (2023 iX, 2023 EQE500). This is after a $2M plus claim when my house burned down with my Cayenne in the garage. Liberty Mutual handled the claim then dropped me so I am with Auto Owners now.

Wow, guess I can’t complain as much about the recent increase we had with Geico. North Florida, $2280/6 months for 2 cars (wife’s 2020 Honda Odyssey), of which the iX accounts for $1254.

My last insurer wouldn’t cover the iX. So I had to shop around.
LM quoted me more than 2x Plymouth Rock here in MA (annually $1600 for iX and $670 for the 128i). And I have Home with LM. Don’t be so loyal. I wanted to move home too, but PR wouldn’t provide coverage. C’est la vie.

I think we're conflating issues here. The entirety of the CLAR platform vehicles use CFRP to varying degrees. The cost of repair is more than just the CFRP component and it's not unique to EV. Aluminum is also expensive to repair and even my decades old Land Rover has a healthy dose of aluminum. T*'s approach has been to cast large components which greatly changes the repair vs replace calculus. All of these decisions contribute to the problem of insurance cost but they're not the same across different brands or even unique to EVs.

To me, it looks fishy. He'll likely be happy with his new replacement car, but if it comes at the expense of a decade of increased premiums, it may not be the best overall for him. I would have enquired about the affect on his premiums between the repair and the car being totaled but he is busy new car shopping so I guess his mind is already made up. |

It is no fault insurance here, so you always deal with your own insurance company no matter who is to blame, so this might make it different than other places without that system. |

When BMW did their huge one-piece aluminum frame in the E60, total claims shot through the roof and took insurance with it. That was 20 years ago, so BMW was a forerunner in this space. I’m guessing the carbon tub and Stupidly expensive roof panel are not helping us in the iX.

$1,275 for 6 mos w/ The Hartford for 250/500 coverage quoted direct and that rate is for two cars including our iX. If I went through my insurance agent the same coverage with the same insurer would have cost double!
