EVO i8 review video/"documentary" by Henry Catchpole
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com EVO takes a different approach with their new video. i8 part starts around 7 minutes in. Interesting thing I found from the video (I don't know if it's true), but there is no paint. The thermoplastic body panels have their color impregnated into the panel itself, which in theory means a scratch would be the same color and that "paint chips" would be nonexistent. It also means that something like a paint protection film would be less of a "must." |

Great video, and another great review of the i8. Hopefully positive, fair reviews like these from well-established motorcar journalists will help to broaden the appeal of the i8 to the masses.

I think petrol/hybrid electric is the future, but with a more powerful petrol engine and a battery sized to only capture braking energy. Something more along the lines of the Porsche 918, but scaled down so it could be sold for $75,000. The i8 is certainly a great looking car with many technological features. Last week I managed to see one in the Frankfurt airport on my way home from Europe.

Great video! Thx for sharing.
I think the i8 has set a benchmark of hybrid performance cars here, but the 918 really brought this category to the next level.

Last week I would have been skeptical but after living with an i3 for the past few hundred miles (dealership gave me one as a loaner) I'm completely in love with it. The carbon fiber structure is unbelievably stiff, handling and ride quality are excellent, it has plenty of power and the range with the range extender works for me.
If the interior styling was more like a traditional BMW and if it was available as a sedan or coupe, I'd be all over an i car as my daily driver instead of my 335is. Last edited by Remonster; 09-16-2014 at 01:22 PM.. |

Encouraging review for me since I am not fully fully sold on the car just yet but at the same time am lusting something different from all the Ms I have had. I want to finally drive one so bad.
On another note, these reviews make me think about the color differently, maybe the darkest one is the way to go after all vs. the blue..... |

That was a good video. I like Henry's style of journalism, met him a few times now (trackdays etc) and he does not have an ego like a number of other car reviews have.
On the BMW i8, I think this is the market benchmark. And could be enough to keep it ahead of the completion for a while. Not that long though so I hope BMW are already well into the next i car. |
