Ok this is embarrassing, I work in tech and have all of my life. But for the life of me I cannot figure out how the heck that phone mount/cradle/thing in the middle console works. Is it only for Iphones? ( I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge).

Did you buy a snap in adapter? The thing in the console receives a snap in adapter, which you order based on the type of phone you want to use.

If you want to use your ipod classic a 30 pin to usb cable is your best bet.

yeah there is a snap in piece but the pins face upward. No one asked me what kind of phone I had when I bought the car.


I figured the Ipod would only work with the older cable.

The plastic piece in the console with the label "SNAP-IN-ADAPTER" actually isn't a snap in adapter. I think it's a BMW product engineer's practical joke.

That piece is a dummy cover. When you remove it you see the the pins facing upward, as you describe. Those pins connect with a snap in adapter designed for your specific phone, this is an accessory that doesn't come with the car. They cost about $200 as I recall. I bought one for my first M5 and never used it, since it requires your phone be out of sight.
