BMW i8 CA Carpool Lane Decal?

Being that the i8 is a hybrid, I'm assuming that it qualifies for the CA carpool lane decal that allows you to drive in the carpool lane with only one person in the vehicle (the driver). Has anyone been successful at getting this decal for their i8 in CA? I didn't see the i8 listed on the qualifying vehicle list on the DMV website but I did see the i3.

The i8 is not eligible, sadly. California changed its regulations a few years ago. Hybrids need no longer apply. Electric only.

The i8 failed to qualify due to the (relatively high) level of emissions from the gas side of the hybrid-ness.

Yes, they ran out of Green Stickers in December. But the i8 was never on the eligible list. To be on the Green Sticker list, the gas engine had be SULEV rated. The i8 was only ULEV rated, so it never qualified.

It's a good thing they stopped giving out Green Stickers to Plug-in Hybrids. The carpool lanes are jam packed with priuses and other hybrids, making the carpool lanes nearly pointless. All those green stickers should expire, and only white sticker Full Electrics (and Natural gas civics) should be allowed.

I assume the guy printed his own...

The i8 is not eligible for the decals that are currently available. He may have applied by claiming it was a different car or transferred from another car. In either case that would be illegal.

I've seen that's same white i8 !
It was also at the Saratoga Car show this year too ! It was an early 2014 model if maybe that qualified back then ?
