What would I change out the i8

So after driving the car for about 600 miles, I think I have a pretty decent handle on what I think the next i8 must address. I think as is I'd give the car a 9/10. The remaining 10% could be made better by...

Better acceleration: the car is quick, no doubt, but 50-75 more hp would be wonderful.

Better brakes: in my opinion this the weakest performance feature on the car. They honestly just aren't very strong.

Wider tires: I haven't notice any lack of grip with the narrow tires, but for the aesthetics alone the car needs 295 rears and 255 fronts.

Improved E range: 35 miles of e range would transform the usability to the car in E mode.

As of this moment, that's really all I have! Pretty damn good for a car that's a brand new model/huge step forward in design and thought process for BMW.

I wish they wouldn't have detuned the electric engine. Still waiting if someone can crack that. I also wish there was an option to have e-boost ready from a dig, instead of kicking in based on mashing the accelerator. I could be wrong, but it seems like that would provide more consistent and guaranteed oomf from every launch.

Agree on wheels. I'm going with 245/285...looking forward to the appearance and handling.

Wow you and I are very much on the same page regarding areas where we think the car can have some improvements...

First one - Power (did a tuned) I am now very happy with the extra power !!!

Second - Brakes (doing the M5 Brembo 6pot 400mm conversion on the car, all OEM except for the bracket) just have to get some time to install the set up.

Third - wheels/ tires, it was the first thing I replace on the car 21x9 and 21x10.5 with 245 on the fronts and 285 rears (a must IMO since the bicycle tires and ugly wheels are just not up to par).

Improve E range - nothing we can do there... lol

i've heard a alot of people say the one thing they would change, would be more power. i have a 2015 750li and even though it has a more powerful engine, i'm completely satisfied with my i8's performance. with that being said, there are a few things i would "change"
  1. bang & olfsen surround sound
  2. heated steering wheel
  3. air conditioned seats
  4. dynamic ride adjustment - like the 7 series

Did you have any clearance issues with the larger rims/ wheels? I'm interested in the BBS FI wheels. They're so light and look awesome.

Got it done here local in SFL with Velos designwerks, whp gain on the dyno +54hp and in +72tq.

The great thing about the tune is that the power IMO is where it needs to 75 -120mph is where the big different is at or where I feel it the most... 0-60 is a bit better as well so far the best launch 3.9sec

I can agree with all the points here besides I would love to add these :
2 or 3 USB Ports
SD Card Reader
DVD Player at least a slot for CDs
Bigger fuel tank capacity

Adaptive Cruise Control would be very useful too , just like G11/12 BMW 7 Series
Sorry for this rostrum ,you said what you would change but it's like everyone has their own favorites things to add

I must also add , a cut or flat bottom steering wheel

If you need the USB for charging, there's a cig socket under the dash in the passenger foot-well that some people don't know about, easy to pop a dual-usb socket into there (no data though obviously)

SD - you can get a USB thumb drive that you can pop an SD card into.

For such a futuristic car though, I'd like to see more software customisation such as changing logos or entire screen designs plus being able to have more control over the LED interior settings, more camera features etc...

Well, I don't own an i8 yet, but am planning on getting the MY18 car. One feature I'm hoping they might incorporate is the remote parking feature that the 7 series now has available. I have a tight fit in my garage, and the ability to move the car in and out of the garage remotely would be nice.

Which bracket? Do you mean it will be custom/one-off or is there a solution? Also, do you know if the rear upgrade would fit?

I would like to be able to put it in sport mode, without firming up the suspension. Something akin to the custom M1 and M2 buttons on M cars would be great.

I would like the Auto-Headlights/High Beams to be "on" by default and not the other way around.

Yup. I don't get why they did not do that.

Yes custom made, will be working on the rear as well but remember 70-80% of the braking power comes from the front set up and the 400mm will be a massive upgarde
