Tierneyalvin this might be presumptuous, but did you consider buying out the lease yourself and selling the car to CarMax? I'm guessing you have about $80K left to buyout your lease? You can probably get $70K from CarMax, and then you'd be out of this car.

On a side note, what car is now going to be your daily driver? Your profile says Model Y. I'd be seriously curious what your decision-making process was around that?

BMW doesn't allow CarMax -- or any 3rd party -- to buy out leases sadly.

That’s why I said you have to buy it yourself and then turn around and sell to CarMax. Could that work?

I didn't consider that as an option because I always believed I would then be on the hook to pay any sales taxes due to the state?

Darn. You are correct. Sorry I forgot about taxes. If you are in So Cal like me it would be ~9%. So that’s another $7.2K. Tricky situation. I’m sorry about the situation. Best of luck to you.

Contact Anthony @ DSR Leasing ... they buy out leases without an issue. I'm almost sure BMW is a brand he can handle.

I believe you are allowed to resell within 7 days and then not pay sales tax in California. Obviously verify this yourself, but I have done this in the past with an Audi lease and did not pay sales tax on the transaction.
