How Long?
Greetings,
I'm waiting for my i8 and feel as if time is creeping by at a 10x slower pace than normal. Here is my question: From the time 'Track Your BMW' shows, 'Finishing Touches' to, 'At Your BMW Dealership', how much time typically elapses? I was called bright and early on Monday, June 15th by my sales advisor stating that the car would be in on Thursday or Friday and to stop by and complete the paperwork at my convenience. I went in on Thursday June 18th to complete the paperwork and was assured that the car would be in on Friday evening...no later than Saturday morning. Here we are today, June 23rd and no car. I appreciate any guidance that the board can provide. I'm increasingly intolerable to live with at this point and I don't see it improving until I have the car in my possession. Thanks for your help! Hmmm....interesting that your dealer was anxious to complete the paperwork before the car arrived. The dealer has access to the ship your car is on and when the car will arrive in port. Given that you are in the southeast, it's likely 5-7 days from arrival at the port until delivery at dealer. Also, if you dealer was really on the ball, he would call the trucking company and get the exact delivery once it's been picked up at the port.

Thanks!
It arrived at port last Monday. My sales advisor is on vacation and was advised that the car would be in on the late in the week. I will reach out to the sales manager and request the information regarding the trucking schedule. |

Update
I spoke to the sales manager at my local BMW dealership and he shared the following from the prep facility: 'RHS spoiler has been removed and sent to prep today. Will hit the paint booth tomorrow morning. Once fully cured my polish by the end of the day. Install and approval by Saturday at the earliest or Monday at the latest.' I am highly dissatisfied by this message and the implications about damage to the vehicle. Has anyone else had any issues this acute? I am shocked that this level of work would need to be done on a car costing nearly $150K. I am of a mind to not accept delivery and have placed another call to the sales manager. I will keep everyone posted. |

I would like to think that damages occurring at port are less frequent than hoped for. To the contrary, the frequency of such mishaps have warranted major car manufactures (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche...) to have body shops either onsite or nearby to address these issues. Regarding your dilemma, if it were me, I would check out the vehicle in question before deciding to start the ordering process all over again. Good luck! |

In my initial response, I found it odd that you were requested to sign the paperwork before delivery. Now to find out that the car was damaged seems strange. Inspect the car, if it's not to your satisfaction, get a new one assigned. You should get a priority slot in production.

It seems that the normal time to arrive at my dealership is 4-6 days from the time it is loaded on the transport from that port. The repairs will extend the targeted time of arrival at the dealership from 6-19 or 6-20 to 6-29 or 7-1. I have informed the dealership that I will inspect the car prior to taking delivery and reserve the right to refuse acceptance. I will keep everyone informed. Cheers-mk |

It seems that it happens pretty frequently based on a conversation with a former Porsche mechanic. I will definitely check out the car but if I'm dissatisfied, I will insist that BMWNA secure a car from another source. My original order was lost in the shuffle when my previous sales advisor departed for greener pastures. I was originally set for an April '15 delivery then an August '15 delivery, and now last week due to the increase in production. This seems a bit sloppy for the largest seller of high-end cars in the US. Cheers-mk |

I'm a know biz traveler by the dealership and I often sign things in advance or after taking possession of vehicles. The last two cars were afterwards (Within the past year). This is the first one that didn't meet the delivery mark. They legitimately thought that it would arrive between Thursday and Saturday and I have no reason to doubt them based on my previous dealings. I will definitely inspect the vehicle closely before taking possession. Cheers-mk |

Update.
I brought the M6 to the dealership for an oil change and ignition coil replacement this morning and received this update from the dealership manager: The car was completed and signed off by the facility on Saturday, June 27, 2015 and released to the transport company. The dealership is tracking it and promised delivery on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. In order to make up for the delay and communication SNAFU, they offered me a weekend in MSY but I declined and asked for them to foot the expense on the charger. They were happy to do so and the parts manager walked over to me about 15 mins later and informed me that the order had been placed and gave me one of the new BMW Motorsports caps, as well. I will keep everyone updated on the delivery. Thanks for all of the input. Cheers-mk |

I have it!
The vehicle is much more than I imagined. I put about 100 miles on it the first day and could not be more pleased with the performance. I will post pictures and driving impressions on tomorrow. The most telling aspect of my entire 12 hours of ownership has been the attention the car gets. It is a bit ridiculous. A near accident in the Starbucks parking lot and the 'quick draw cell phone camera gunslingers confirmed to me that this is a special car. Thanks to all for the comments on the delay. Best Regards-mk |

Looks great. I've got the same exterior color but with the dalbergia brown interior. The lighter interior works well, especially for the south and southeast.
Glad to know your pleased with its performance. You will be even more pleased once the engine has completed the initial 1,200 mile conditioning period. Thanks for sharing! |

Thanks yw!
I have the Silverstone leather in my M6 and it makes worlds of difference in the summer. I've only been in possession of one vehicle with a dark interior and I vowed that I would never do it again. It was pure misery in the summer. Cheers-mk |

It was like Christmas as a child but 1,000 times worse: I can usually control what I have to go through but this was completely out of my hands!! My 17 y/o daughter commented that I was worse than a 3 year old having a tantrum. It was harrowing! That said, I just put my head down and worked to the point of exhaustion the day before. The extra kicker was the fact that the dealer thought they could deliver it on Thursday July 2nd at 8 pm but had trouble with the initial charge on the car. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!! |
