Suspension too hard
After having my i8 in for changing tires in november (winter tires) I was told they also did a mandatory "action" on the car which included reset and reprogramming (they had it in for 3 days). When I got it back, and every day after that, I think the suspension is much harder than before and the handling not as it used to be. Of course the shop says that everything is fine. For a while there I had a steady spaceship - now I have a lot more bumpy ride, both in comfort- and sport-mode.
Do you think this could be the case or is it just me? Could there be something with det EDC and the reprogramming? Could it be that BMW has changed the software for stiffer suspension? Is it possible for the shop to do the programming wrong? Anything else I could do to verify? Appreciate any thoughts on this - thanks! Last edited by smashion; 03-12-2018 at 01:29 PM.. |

My one and only complaint with this wonderful car. Stiff suspension.
Btw, 10 deg increase in temp will increase pressure by 1.5 psi/ 0.1 bar. So if they refilled at morning cold temp and you are driving around in the warm afternoon, it is quite noticeable. The sports setting is a bit over the top in stiffness for me. The car will start hopping sideways ever so slightly on some sections with lateral g and uneven tarmac, with the softer comfort setting being the faster setting for these curve sections. Am trying to understand the reason to spring/ dampen a car very stiffly if a battery pack results in a super low center of gravity. Would just love to have full acceleration in comfort mode. You have never driven a porsche 911 then... let alone a gt3 or rs. The i8 is a pullman in comparison.

Thank you all, I will try to change the tire pressure. The car is fitted with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 215/45R20 95R XL both front and rear.
The current tire pressure is 2.0 bar in the front and 2.1 bar rear (see attached picture). My driving conditions is between -5 and +5 degrees celcius. Any recommendations for tire pressure? |

I get it. If I could change one thing about the car, it would be the addition of custom config buttons as in the M cars. I would like to keep it in sport mode full time, but with the regular, softer suspension setting.

As in GT= Grand Tour?
Not sure. Tightly damped is one thing but kicking and rattling with no give is pseudofast, as it does not maximize road contact. And yes I did drive those as well. And all of them allow to set engined separately from suspension, if I am not mistaken. Am I trying to attend a rodeo, or am I just recharging my battery on a B road? |
