His comment around 6:30 was interesting. Essentially, he indicated with EVs we may be dealing with a different kind of car where the driving dynamics are not that different from one to the next. This is similar to a point I brought up in another thread. When I read the pros in most EV reviews, they tout the same things common to most EVs (i.e they are generally all smooth, quiet, and torquey). My own Volt is a bunch heavier than the i3, but its weight to torque ratio is similar so the feel may be also. The exception to this (at least in part) is the Tesla Model S.

This is what a leaf would look like if it dressed up as a BMW for Halloween.

Good news for tesla stockholders.

this guy talks some nonsense too. he says that the material used is not real carbon fiber but some hybrid between carbon fiber and plastic called carbon fiber reinforced plastic. halo? no CFRP is fiber only! every type of carbon fiber needs to be merged with some kind of resin to be usable for applications such as automotive. the only difference between the material BMW uses and the one you can see in supercars is that BMW's fiber/tissue is industrial grade and that in supercars is mostly aerospace grade.

This review was consistent to what other media reviewers test driving the BMW i3.

Things I've read.
*Safe cell
*Carbon Fibre construction
*Eco-friendly internal cabin material
*95â„… of the car is recyclable to name a few are industry firsts.

-->comparing the volt, leaf, and the model s is expected but IMHO there is nothing on the market that compares to the BMW i3. <--

Good review, I don't know where BMW is headed with this new line, but I'll be waiting with some popcorn while it gets sorted out.

Once it is sorted out, then I can make an informed decision to buy one or not. I hope they bring the things they learn from the i line into their other lines (weight savings, etc) so that the whole brand benefits in the end.

I still wish someone would build an electric car that looks like a normal car. An electric f30 would be nice.

You don't think a Tesla looks like a normal car?

+1 on that. I do like the idea of getting an electric car but i wish they would look normal like the other cars. for now fiat 500e is the only to my eyes that looks like or you can confuse it as a normal 500, with out looking into the badges.

I personally love Tesla, those cars don't look normal, they look exotic and fancy which is great. but how about a mid range $25-$30k price electric car and also a $40k-$50K using the same design because i know they can't use the same chassis as those cars are made for motors and also there pretty heavy, which adding battery packs would make them more heavier.

The upcoming VW eGolf also comes in to mind. It looks like a normal car. Phew.

His review wasn't as positive as I'd hope but it was good nonetheless.

It kinda amazes me that CNET has better car reviews than most auto blogs. He went over a lot of stuff very well.

I'm surprised by how positive this guy is but he does what tech reviewers tend to do. They won't call a product successful just on it's own merits. They jump on bandwagons, he's hedging his bets as to whether or not the i3 will be successful, but that's not an opinion on whether or not it is a good car.

It's light weight, it's technologically advanced, it's the best in its class. Simple as that, it should be celebrated. Not met with, "We'll see if they can convince the hapless public to buy a lot of them...".

How do you charge these new cars if you live in an urban area and routinely park a few blocks away, or just don't have a garage?

So the range extender doesn't close the loop, you still need to plug the vehicle in every time you're out of juice... That sounds silly and a bad design decision. And I don't like that I need to exit the vehicle to allow people in through the suicide doors.

Other than that it's kinda ok... I was hoping for a lower priced electric from BMW, I guess I'll have to wait.
