i8 Pure Impulse Package

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just read an article indicating there will be a package, at least in Europe, that adds nearly 20,000 Euros to the base price. According to the article, the Pure Impulse package adds a heads up display, 20 inch wheels, leather wrapped instrument panel, and special embroidering on the headrest. That price seems ridiculous for those added features. I know we've heard that the car will come with virtually no options, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Sounds way off. For that price there should be an i3 in the trunk, too.

Companies do this all the time, especially European. For instance, in the US the SLS AMG Black Series came fully loaded except for B&O stereo. In Germany, the standard features got cut and were offered as individual options. The base being more expensive (even taking taxes, conversion rates, etc into account) than the fully loaded US version.

I've already seen US i8 marketing literature for BMW sales staff and everything mentioned there is standard. Even BMW's offical spec sheet has 20" wheels standard.

BMW's head of marketing for the "i" brand is on record stating that paint, interior, and wheel design would be the only choices and that customers would be "pleasantly surprised by the pricing." I think they know going higher than $135k for a 1.5 liter 3-cylinder hybrid in the US would be asking a bit much...let alone another $20-30k.

They can (of course) change their mind but I don't think they would after announcing a price and being so confident about the "value" proposition.

Found out what it adds over the options available individually.

Headrest

Special Door Trim

Leather engine/trunk cover

Black Calipers

Black Gear Selector

Contrast stitching mats

Everything else appears to be available as individual options and most are standard features (HUD, LED Headlights, etc) in the brochures I've seen for markets other than the home German market. Adding everything up the Pure Impulse package exclusive items cost about 7000-8000€ if you spec the rest of the car to UK/US levels of standard features. We've got it good in the US.
