CarPlay on the i8 , when ...?

Makes no sense these connected apps. I want CarPlay on mine...
Other BMWs have it....what is BMW afraid of ? That Apple steal something ?

CarPlay requires different software and hardware than what the car was originally designed with.

It doesn't make financial sense to add lots of features to a car that is only selling 50 units per month (in the US). Perhaps there will be a refresh of the hardtop's electronics when the roadster version is released.

BMW isn't "afraid" of anything... except losing money.

Next gen i3 is getting IDrive 6.0. There are coding parameters already in place suggesting I012 will as well.

For as many posts as I see on wanting Carplay, I see more complaining about it.

I have car play on 3 of my cars I hate it, never use it.

For me just a question of being practical. I look up a place in maps and then I have To share it to connected app, then I have to go to connected app and send it to car then I have to wait for it to arrive in the car.and look it up on messages. What a mess.

Plus none of apple apps , and this is really strange, qualify as Connected BMW apps.

I always use Waze (not sure that it works in all countries), which is owned by google, which is not compatible with carplay, so I have to disconnect to use Waze. If carplay allowed access and worked with the heads up displays, it would be a much better system.

You would have to use Screen Mirroring. But, problem is you would also need to unlock it in motion and it would not display full screen.

Agreed, Carplay is a poorly integrated afterthought.
