Hey do me a favor, count how many electric power up stations and electric cars are in your neighborhood. Let me know when that number changes and I will read up on global oil production/demand. Its a niche market, until the consumers wants it (which they dont as of yet) we wont see it. Like I said, what we see from automakers would piss me off if I was a diehard greenie like yourself. Dont be so niave!

Until then, hammer down
It's not about electric power up stations - hybrid

Not a greenie, just understand the implications of increased oil demand from developing nations and an at best level supply. If you don't understand this I'd suggest it's you who is "niave" (sic).

Anyway we're a little off topic here. Car looks good, prefer it to the concept as it now looks more "real". Would definitely consider it subject to price point.

Very nice, I`m also glad that they`re keeping most of the concept lines on the production car..now It just needs the M version.

But the car I hope the most for is the BMW Vision Connected Drive Concept car as the replacement for the Z8..maybe as a hybrid IZ8..I don`t really care how it would be called, just bring It, and also make an M version of It, that would be just crazy, I love that car!

I will be among the minority here, I'm sure, but I don't like the concept, and these spy pics don't look any better. Although I've never looked at a spy pic and thought to myself "that looks really good", it certainly isn't going to change this time. It just looks weird. I hope it turns out being a very attractive car, but I have strong doubts.

Never is a very very long time... The i8 is the perfect car to develop these technologies on, because at least they are not 'pretending' to save the planet like the prius or other so called budget hybrid cars are, causing more harm than good.

10 Years, keep dreaming... With todays supply and demand, and I cant see that being any better in 10 years time, if hybrids managed to steal 1/6 of annual sales from diesel powered cars, they would totally price themselves out of the market, never mind including petrol powered vehicles.... Thus bringing home the true unequivocal sense of the word; SUSTAINABLE.

The world simply does not have enough resources for there to be one single solution to the energy crisis, as usual its a balance of technologies that will win this fight, a fight BMW is IMHO is leading with above I models...

Agree, slap a v10 and be done with it and a inline 6 twin turbo in the i3.

Good looking! It seems like the original dimensions are being pretty closely adhered to, I like that.

I might be nice to see a Hybrid version and Maybe a Marquee flagship version with a Massive V-10 or V-12 ala the Porsche Carerra GT

I am envisioning the M8 here. Fuel injected V10TT. More carbon fiber and crystalline micro lattice alloy bits. Add the laser projectors and full alcantara interior. Also the M diesel version. -670 whp/wtq at top of range. Also add KERS and unlock M boost mode for extra 15 psi

That actually looks pretty good, the concept is better but the render still looks good enough that if I had the money, I'd get one!

This is by far the best looking bmw I have seen in awhile and possibly the best looking protype stage I have ever seen. Really a waste of a great looking car.

Could someone explain to me the point of this car? 3300 pounds is not exactly a lightweight if the point was economy.

What is the expected mileage of this thing?

Don't car companies get that making electricity flow takes burning fossil fuels just like cars do

I am so sick of this disguised energy loss. 99 percent of peopel think hydrogen fueled cars and electric are so green and saves us all oil and gas. Nobody understands it takes energy, oil and fossil fuels that make up gas, to actually produce electricity and get it to flow out across the grid! It also takes ALOT of burned fossil fuels and oil to liquify hydrogen gas into liquid that is needed to be stored in tanks in a hydrogen car.

The ONLY "free" energy that does not rely on oil is wind/turbine and nuclear. I wish they would make a nuclear powered car. That would be sick! I can see htis would not sell well however!!

a regular 1ser shark fin and even the fuel tank lid looks dull compared the cool looking one on the concept.... even the side mirrors look like they came from a regular 1st gen 1 series!! major let down who here would pay the reported 150000 Euros for a car that comes with a 1ser mirros???
and it looks like the gullwing fullglass doors are gone too (notice the crevice in front of the door) along with the gorgeous bonet lines above the front wheels. And are those production wheels or they just swapped them for testing??
It's a test mule. Most likely some of those parts aren't intended for the production model. Look at previous test mules for the M5 and 1M to see how they changed along the way to production.

The specs of this car does not bother me at all.

10 years ago, how many hybrids were there? Likely it was a single digit number. I recall only the Insight and Prius. Now you have hybrid versions of the 3, 5, 7, and X6. The difference is that luxury car makers understand their battery powered cars have to be FAST.

Lexus says there will be no V8 option for their new GS. The hybrid is the top of the line one now. I tease my Dad and call his GS450h a big Camry. That car is a lot faster than you think. I agree with the gentleman that says the automotive landscape in terms of what powers are vehicle will be different in 10 years. There is currently 65 hybrid vehicles on sale not including the 3er and 5er. That excludes the 12+ announced cars for next year. Battery tech is still growing. More competition means better innovation. Tesla will give u a 300mi range out of a charge but its expensive as all hell in the Model S. In 10 years maybe an BMW i3 can get that a fraction of the cost.

They don't have to be boring. BMW will be one of the many trying to change that.

Not bad looking, but I rather see a decent engine and less electric power.
