L2 EVSE charger of i3/8
Folks,
I am about to pull the trigger on an i3. What L3 EVSE charger have you guys chosen to install in your garage? So far, I'm looking at: - BMW's (30 AMP, huge) - Bosch EL-51254 (30 AMP, indoor/outdoor, 25' cord) - Siemens VC30GRYU (30 AMP, indoor/outdoor, 25' cord) - GE WattStation (30 AMP, indoor only, 18-25' cord) - Leviton EVB40-PST (40 AMP, indoor/outdoor, 25' cord) a

I bought the BMW charger level 2, it's mounted outside for now, bought it from a dealer on eBay for $865 then got $100 dollars rebate from Schnyder electric (producer of charger) not sure of spelling. Then the state of Illinois gives a rebate of 50% the cost of the charger and installation so the charger costed only 332.50. Great deal!!! Labor was only a couple hundred. It's worked outside flawlessly and has a nice shelf to sit my drink on when uninstalling or installing the plug .... |

I have a Clipper Creek unit. I bought it for several reasons: good reviews, and, made in the USA. Their price point (less than $600 for the 32A unit) is decent, too. They have been making EVSEs for a long time. Mine has proven very reliable, but then, it is in my garage. The case is rated for external use, though.

I have the Siemens VersiCharge. I work for Siemens and was in the team that released the project. So I got it for free.

Speaking of L3 chargers (80% in ~30 mins), the only only references I could find for the charger are from these marketing releases:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/bm...fast-chargers/ http://insideevs.com/bmw-launches-ne...chargers-6458/ http://www.greencarreports.com/news/...priced-at-6500 So L3: - uses SAE Combo 1 Inlet - may cost $6.5K - is n/a for regular humans I just can't find anyone selling it today, nor is it installed in any of the NE dealers or ChargePoint locations I've checked to date. There may be a few available in Cali, though: http://www.plugincars.com/evgo-has-1...ng-129314.html a

Some people call a CCS unit level 3, but that is not an accepted industry term. The nearest one to me is way over 100-miles away. Hopefully, some day, I'll be able to check out my DCFC inlet to my i3 before the warranty expires! A CCS unit is a charger...all others are EVSE's - the charger is IN the vehicle for acv inputs, but in the CCS unit when going dcv. That's one reason why they cost so much more than an EVSE...a monster power supply is not cheap.
