Moving on - Thanks for the great forum

Hello all,

It has been a pretty cool ride (pun intended). I have had my i8 since May and truth be told it is a great car. Although it has come to a point that I don't feel comfortable driving around in it. As it is my only car (wife drives a X5) I drive it everywhere I need to go. It simply draws too much attention. People come up to me asking what I do for living, if I can offer them a Job, asking for a handout, taking pictures, calling me a jackass for owning it, etc.

It is only a matter of time before one of these situations escalates.

So if anyone reading this trying to decide if an i8 is for them, all I can say it is a wonderful car that is full of great tech. Just get used to the attention, and the so/so transmission.

Thanks for all the great threads on here.

Hopefully I will see some of you guys on the M4 forum.

Jeff

M4 good shout.
I`ve only had my i8 a week, so obviously we are still in our honeymoon period !
I wouldn't be selling because it gets too much attention, it makes ME feel special, but then again, I can understand your frustrations. Enjoy the M4 it will be hoot ! I may see you in my rear view mirror one day....

I had a bunch of people come up to me today at the bagel shop. All very nice and no drama.

Sorry to see you go but this is not the first or the last person to leave the i8 for the exact reason. The attention is not for everyone and depending on where you live it could be even more heightened.

Good luck bro!

I can say that in 20 months of ownership and with 21'000 km on the clock, I have never been approached about the car in a rude or annoying way. In fact, the attention is lightyears more positive than with any other car with a similar appearance, because of the innovative concept and the ability to just shut up (in exhaust terms) when the situation doesn't call for waking up the dead at every stoplight.

Maybe it's just where I live ...

Interesting Thread, as I was just talking about the amount of attention this car probably generates.

Just returned from a BMW Golf Event/test drives in which I specifically attended in order to test drive the i8. "363ny" also attended. Nice guy and he's likely going to pull the trigger on one. We were discussing the pro/con of the attention the i8 creates.

Myself, coming from a Jag F-Type R coupe, I struggle at times with the attention the car draws. I'm not sure I want any more attention if I were to get an i8. I believe it is regional-dependent. I'm out in the sticks

Interesting. Totally different situation here in Switzerland. I get head turns, for sure, but otherwise I get very rarely approached by anyone. In the last 6 months this happened "only" 3 times ... and I am a daily driver.

It very much is a regional thing. Around my house, there are plenty of nice cars so it does not really generate that much attention. Although when I go downtown or to work, which is in a much more "urban" area it seems to attract all types.

I've been using the i8 to slang rock and cap fools. Perfect law enforcement evasion car.

How was the event? I got them to email me a coupon, since I could not attend. Who is pulling the trigger. I am ordering mine tomorrow, although can't get the twist wheels, with white and just grey. I prefer it without the blue trim on the grill and back

Well Switzerland is full of supercars and Swiss people are more reserved than in the US for example, so that's not very surprising.

I'm in Zürich and even Lambos are becoming rather invisible and anonymous. I see them casually parked in front of the local supermarkets nearby typical family cars and.... well nothing, nobody cares

Sorry to hear you sell it. Yes,BMW i8 gets more attention than I thought it would get.I have never encountered bad approach, everyone is showing admiration to the car. Picking up attention might be good thing or bad depending on person and location.
