looks like a ferrari a little. i have to say i love it. they retained the original design but made it more production oriented and this looks beautiful. yes this will def. be battling on the race track in many series. R8 killer for sure. if they do an M version of this then ive found my new love over the M3.

I'd say a good 99% of the population is over burning $20/day worth of petrol. They'd jump on any worthy hybrid if the price didn't nullify fuel savings. The other problem so far is that all viable options are ugly and cater to environmentalists - not car enthusiasts.
The Tesla S could prove the possibilities in a couple years. But of course, like you, I'm not about to trade my M for a Prius or Volt. lol In due time. It's not crazy to think you might be driving an $80k M hybrid with 600hp and 50mpg efficiency in 2020. |

Just in terms of gross economics, is a car full of heavy metal batteries that burns less fuel any better than a car that gets a fraction of the mileage? I will never consider a car primarily powered by largely unrecyclable batteries, even if that means I'm stuck driving older and older cars. All the pious ads for the Volt/Leaf/Prius strike me as ridiculous.

I don't care what anyone thinks.
This car is sexy. It is cool, like the R8. It is Carbon Fiber. It is both diesel and gas (EU/US), plus electricity. It is the future, regardless of what you think or say. This is an icebreaker in the hybrid performance arena. Soon enough our cars will catch up with our tech and they'll all be hybrid/electric, be it in ten years or one hundred...it will happen. So...kick back and enjoy the pictures of a car 95% of us can't afford. No need to pointlessly scrutinize other posts for tidbits which don't matter. |

Nice render in red on page 2... needs a shark fin and Hoffmeister (sp?) Kink in the rear windows.
Can't wait to watch this strip-tease!

i really hope those cone lights on the rear are just temporary and they stick with the plexiglass lights shown on the concept car.
You think maybe the cones are glued on and made to work just for testing or they'll continue to look stupid on the production model? |

I will be among the minority here, I'm sure, but I don't like the concept, and these spy pics don't look any better. Although I've never looked at a spy pic and thought to myself "that looks really good", it certainly isn't going to change this time. It just looks weird. I hope it turns out being a very attractive car, but I have strong doubts

It totally does. I was thinking the same thing. I am in love with the old 8 and would love to buy an 850 CSI but $35,000-$50,000 is a lot to pay for a 20 year old car.

The i8 Concept Car is 97% the finished article.
If you take the Vision EfficientDynamics Concept car and compare the i8 Concept you can see that there has been development in preparing the car for production such as the reconfigured nose which has been modified and tested for crash testing. The genius of the i8 is that it is completely stand-alone and projects a very exciting image for future sustainable mobility. Especially when the competition have only electrified their own sports cars and not brought anything innovative or trend-setting as the i8. The i8's powertrain shows how future performance can still be relevant in years and years to come. i8 does not need or will get a V8 or V10 because it then defeats the entire purpose of the car and the BMWi brand. As a hybrid it is still a fast and performance orientated car and is the perfect halo car for BMW as the leading manufacturer in sustainable technology. It is the Vision of BMW adapting itself to the future of motoring.
