No wheel company keeps offsets secret, I used to sell wheels. You need to know offsets of wheels when setting up the stance of the car. It's a very important part of the equation. Especially custom rims designed to order.

This is also important so the depth of the wheel won't hit the shocks and suspension bits. Whomever told you that was blowing smoke up your butt!
