BMW i8 Review by CarThrottle: Sexy, Superhuman Hybrid & Porsche 911 Eater

BMW has spent the last 12 months at the forefront of the motoring world. This year alone, we’ve been given the astonishingly good 425bhp and 406lb ft M3 and M4 - cars I recently said were ‘as good as it gets in terms of sex appeal, performance, noise and driver involvement’. Towards the latter part of 2013, BMW also launched the i3, an electric city car (also available as a range-extender) that offers bold styling with strong performance and a battery life of between 80 and 100 miles.

And now, there’s the i8, BMW’s new 2+2 sports car that combines the best of both worlds - performance and efficiency - into an intriguing and utterly beguiling package. Even if the i8 does look like it’s swallowing a Porsche 911…

Very nice review, thanks for posting. Nice to see the Euro mag testers got some color choice other than Ionic Silver.

Yes, my favorite i8 color as well.

Have you seen the Stanceworks Protonic Blue i8 photos? They were pretty amazing:

That color is absolutely gorgeous!

I was lucky enough to see one in person, but it was dressed in the Sophisto Gray with Frozen Blue. So it wasn't quite as striking.

Here's an interactive walkaround of the i8 I captured, in all its stunning beauty:

This is best viewed with the Fyuse iPhone app, but you can get the gist of it in a browser.

Wow, such an awesome video - great shots, great angles, fresh and honest presenting, great accompanying music,... I loved it and I'm getting more and more excited now about the i8.

I never saw that "eating/birthing a 911" view before, but now that they mention it, that's exactly what it looks like....

It is the future

Amazing car. I had the pleasure of driving all day in all conditions and agree with all the rave reviews. The styling is out of this world and the reaction in the eyes of people is just overwhelming.

It had a universal appeal where it offended no one and brought a smile onto all who came upon it.

Home run BMW.

Great review. Love the giving birth to a Porsche 911 part.

What's the suspension and steering like? What would you compare it to in that regard, an M235i maybe?
