Agree with everything except for maybe interior being 9/10.

This car is amazing, I got a chance to really check one out in Munich recently. Amazing what access you can get from the people at BMW Welt if you show real interest in a car.
To me, this car was truly a taste of the future. From the exterior design to the power sources, it really is next-gen beautiful. The interior is standard BMW and by no means matches the exterior. But at this price, who could complain? I'd bet a lot the base MSRP goes up next year, and the year after. Well deserved.

Seems like Top Gear got the review on the F80 M3 right. The B Team did a pretty damn good job designing the new M3 and M4, where as the A Team designed the i8 and now it's really showing. Everything I've heard on the i8 is that it is fantastic.

Unfortunately, the i8 was reviewed and based on emotion.. not it's actual self. The "value" score alone, illustrates how enamored Jalopnik was over BMW's marketing.
The i8 offers "performance" in small doses, not at all like the 911, R8, etc. Which can maintain it's performance all day, & for more than 40 miles at a time. |

Jalopnik only serves as a form of entertainment for me, which is what it was intended to do.
I wouldn't stack it up against R&T, C&D, Motortrend, or anything along those lines. It's just a blog.

I returned to this thread expecting butthurt and many "it's not that great" comments...I am not leaving disappointed. Meanwhile, haters are hating, and I'm having a great time with the i8. And no, Jalopnik reviews aren't objective critiques of a car, they're more about the subjective opinion/emotion of the reviewer. I know I treat sports car purchases as completely clinical, emotionless, and logical affairs so that's how reviews should be. </sarcasm> |

Oh wow. If this is the dominant attitude on a BMW forum towards the only remaining source of passionate automotive journalism, why is there so much complaining about BMW "losing its way"? You're getting what you deserve.

Do the articles sometimes have some silliness? Yes. Immaturity? Yes. But they do churn out some good stuff. And many of the same contributors have many things in common with some folks on here. They love the Manual, go racing, etc. And they extoll the virtues of the e30...If you are expecting Dan Neil award winning articles and writing, Jalopnik might not be the place. But, give credit where credit is due. |

Jalopnik is kinda like an action movie with Jason Statham or Liam Neeson. You're not expecting a cinematic masterpiece, but damn if the end results aren't entertaining. You're not getting the zenith of automotive journalism at Jalopnik, but there's no shortage of entertaining pieces, and you have to admire the more enthusiast-geared perspective.

Awesome review. I can't disagree with any of it either (other than getting the 0-60 time wrong).
12/10 for value is stupid, without a doubt, but their point is well made. Can't believe some people are moaning about it. |
