Hills Alive - Luggage set for the i8

I just received my set of Custom Luggage form Hills Alive.

http://www.hillsalive.co.uk/index.ph...id=13&Itemid=3

Two pieces. Mine was done in black, with blue trim. The blue is close, but not quite a perfect match to BMW's blue trim.

The top piece works fairly well for three pairs of blue shoes.

Awesome. Thanks.

So safe to assume there are three blue suits in the luggage?

Blue Jeans. Blue shirts. Blue Socks. And Sophisto Grey nail polish... oops, I've said too much.

Nice bags, I just feel carrying luggage shaped like that at the airport and hotels, might get the same unwanted attention I get with the car.

They don't have a link for our i8 up on the website yet. You need to send them an email.

For reference, the set I had built cost me £484, including shipping from UK to USA.

(blue trainers were extra!)

You can get the luggage without the blue trim, making it slightly more subtle.

It's just a nice way to get maximum usage from that odd little space. I doubt I'd carry this luggage through an airport. It's road-trip and weekend hotel luggage, and since I've probably just driven up in the i8, the attention is already drawn.

Your mileage may vary.

I usually transport beer and wine in that odd shape space, sometimes my soccer gear

This luggage is cool and well done it seems.

Production Time

I forgot to add... Production Time.

Since these are crafted one at a time, to your specification, this isn't something you can just order and have overnight.

I place my order on April 20th, 2015. The cases arrived at my house June 18th, 2015.

I just happen to have placed my order for the same set last week Louv

But of course we pay more here, even though we are in the UK, where it is made and supplied

I would guess it's because of the VAT.

I think you will get an improved version. I've been working with them to help slightly enlarge the top case, so it can hold a little more stuff. (more blue shoes!)

Yes, the VAT no doubt.

I will measure the top case when it arrives if you like? What are the measurements of yours?

The lower bag is 10” high (without the height of the handle)
The upper bag is 4” high

My luggage arrived

Big case is 25cm high (10").
Small case is 11cm high (4.5").

So, yes it looks like they did increase the volume of the smaller bag by a half inch

Interesting.... I just spotted that your large case has a front handle, and mine has none. Any ideas why that is?

I wonder if they increased the depth of the large case, or just forgot the handle?

I'm not sure. I hadn't discussed any changes to the large case with them. Their producer might have just forgotten.

I measured the depth (front to rear) of the large case.

Mine is 28cm (11"). That is the actual depth of the storage compartment.

Is yours the same?

Yes, same dimension there.

Thanks Louv I will contact HillsAlive about the missing handle.

I do think the luggage is an essential component to making the i8 a usable Grand Tourer.

I am taking my family to Scotland in it next month. Should be some interesting packing going on to take 4 persons' luggage for a 1 week trip
