It may have potential, but it needs a much better video. That alone makes me skeptical about it, though.

Sounds interesting, but frankly I like the engine sound from the stock i8, which raises a question I've had for some time. Does anyone know definitively whether the sound in the cabin is totally artificial, or is it an amplified version of the real engine sound? I've heard both descriptions used when people talk about the sound.

There's a lot more videos on their website, and from what I heard they all sound good to me. I'll try to find a link. I was trying to figure out a way to email them or something but so far no luck. |

Well can anyone translate? I tried putting it through Google, but that site doesn't want to be translated.
Can't imagine ordering is gonna be easy, either. |

I tried the same, no luck. I have no clue what language it is either to try to reach out to someone. Man I'd be willing to try, first time I hear something decent for the i8. Everyone else either sucks or has no sound clips..

It looks like it has an electronic valve, based on the pictures and some of the text I was able to translate with Google (and the video says e-valve). I'm actually still slowly going back and forth with Gintani about their tune. They also offer their own branded exhaust. If I can get something setup, I'll be more than happy to get an actual decent video. |

Oh nice they finally uploaded a video, sounds good too. I'm actually right down the street from them, Alex and Arno are great guys, I'm currently running their tune. I didn't get the dyno results but I can tell you it definitely makes a difference. In the past ive had them tune various cars for myself, friends and family. Notably their tuning made a huge difference on a new quatroporte 4S and an M4. Have also been in a 911 they tuned. I have time slips from famoso speedway when I first got the car and ran a best of 12.4 back in September, am hoping to go back as soon as Famoso has an event and see how the tune affects the 1/4 mile since I didn't get it dyno'ed.

Ah, interesting. Yea, I was emailing them, but it was a bit slow (shoulda just called I guess). They told me they switched out their dyno, hence no charts or dyno runs right now. I guess it's taking longer than expected.
But it doesn't seem like I need to wait for the new dyno, since the tune is ready to go. I don't really care about numbers, either. Maybe I should just make the drive down. |

Per BMW, it is actual engine sounds from the engine bay, then selectively transmitted into the cabin via the speakers. Selectively referring to selective frequencies. So it is fake, and also real Sounds good though, so I don't mind. |

I've never really understood the fuss of this. Manufacturers have been doing this for years, in muscle cars of old with resonators. Porsche have been doing it for years with synthetic sound, and they are considered the home of the sports car purist. VW do it and Ford do it in V8 mustangs!
I challenge anyone to tell the tonal difference between inside and out of a i8 in sports mode. I do believe BMW when they say they are emitting noise of the same frequency. Dishonest fakery would be making it sound like a V8. |

According to the product team in Leipzig, it is the actual engine sound. They stated that it is in fact only amplified when in sports mode.

I enjoy the sound, whether it's fake or not, makes for an enjoyable ride. To be honest I also like it in electric mode. Just the wine from the electric motor is pretty cool.
The ride can be a touch stiff on northeast roads. Might play with tire pressure. I have it at 32 cold |

If they would unplug the exterior speaker it would allow us to hear the engine only. Especially in comfort mode.

Porsche, Subaru, and Ford for example use sound tubes (for lack of a better term) to transfer natural sounds from the intake/engine into the cockpit. They do NOT play engine music through the speakers. That's a big difference in my opinion. |
